This problem is probably due to some other error, so it would be helpful if you composed a fully compilable MWE including \documentclass and the appropriate packages that reproduces the problem for you. –Peter Grill Feb 23 '13 at 19:43 10 If you use MiKTeX, your problem may be explained in the following post: tex.stackexchange.com/q/96778/19384 –Peter Jansson Feb 23 '13 at 20:02 If nothing else works, you

And scanning the MiKTeX Package Manager, surely, I didn't find it either. How is it possible to obtain the amsthm.sty and thereafter installing it. So far I've been lucky enough to have the Package Manager doing all the fuss automatically for http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/112873/installing-amsthm-sty-under-miktex me. packages installing miktex amsthm share|improve this question edited May 6 '13 at 22:27 Werner 330k346611060 asked May 6 '13 at 22:07 LaTeXNewB 5615 I don't use MikTeX, but it's probably bundled with amsmath or some more general package with ams in the name, perhaps ams-latex. –Ryan Reich May 6 '13 at 22:13 4 Welcome to TeX.sx! You probably have been bitten by the same problem exposed in this question: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/96778 –egreg May 6 '13 at 22:14 Thank you! Though not the exact same problem, the thread helped me a lot :) –LaTeXNewB May 6 '13 at 22:30 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 8 down vote The file amsthm.sty is part of MiKTeX's amscls package. Using the MiKTeX Package Manager, you should install amscls. You will probably want to install the amsmath package as well, for any mathematical typesetting. In general, you can find out which MiKTeX package any file is in, by typing the full file name (such as in this case amsthm.sty) into the box at the top of the package manager labelled File name: and then clicking the Filter button. share|improve this answer answered May 6 '13 at 22:47 Ari Brodsky 1,168728 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign

Fortunately, many, many people have built their own commands already and made them available to LaTeX users in packages. Packages allow us to use extra commands without having to include tons and tons of code in the preamble of a document. Instead, we just add the line \usepackage{package name} and we have access to all the commands, symbols, environments, etc., that are in the package. Common Packages This section will cover the packages released by the American Mathematical Society, as well as xypic and fancyhdr. AMS Math packages The American Mathematical Society has produced several packages for use with LaTeX. These packages allow much of the mathematical formatting we have introduced on these pages, as well as much, much more. The packages are included with the installation of MiKTeX. In order to be able to use the commands and symbols in these packages, they must be included in each document in which you require them. To include the packages, include the following in the preamble of your document: \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsthm} Most of the basic parts of these packages which will be useful to you are covered somewhere on these pages. If you'd like to read about more options these packages provide, read the documentati
