I am using MiKTeX 2.9 and TeXnicCenter to compose and execute my LaTeX file(s) on Windows 7. I am using a template from Elsevier to submit a journal article, but I am getting the url.sty download LaTeX Error that File 'numcompress.sty' not found. This file is currently located in the same directory as the other elsarticle files: C:\Program Files (x86)\MikTex 2.9\tex\latex\elsarticle. Did you try to compile your file without TeXnic center? –corentin Jul 20 '12 at 20:52 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 14 down vote Are you using MikTeX as User or as administrator? To be safe change to adminstrator, check wheather your file numcompress.sty is really in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\MikTex 2.9\tex\latex\elsarticle. Now start MiKTeX 2.9 over Windows start -> all programms. Choose Maintenance (Admin), then Settings (admin) (Admin is important!). Now choose General and click Refresh FNDB. Afterwards you can change to user again and run MiKTeX. Refresh FNDB means refresh your database for the used filenames. share|improve this answer edited Aug 25 '13 at 11:56 answered Jul 20 '12 at 23:50 Kurt 23.5k837112 add a comment| up vote 4 down vote As others answer already said: You s

When I add \usepackage{datetime} and try to typeset the document, I get a dialog window like this: I select "Install", confirm UAC request and then get the following error on the console: ! LaTeX Error: File `datetime.sty' not found. If I try to typeset the document again - the dialog and the error appear again. Same thing happens when I've tried installing http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/152277/how-to-fix-latex-error-file-somepackage-sty-not-found wrapfig and a few other packages at random: cases, comma, dowith, microtype. Other packages have installed fine before. What is wrong with my setup? Please let me know if you need more info about my setup in comments. I've tried this solution: *.sty file not found. Please add your comment as an answer so that I can mark it as such. Thanks a lot. –Sergiy Byelozyorov Jan 3 '14 at 15:31 To other linux users, I hit this problem even though I'd just installed the .sty files with the package manager. The problem was stale temporary files and after a make clean (deleting dvi aux bbl files etc.) everything worked. –jozxyqk Jun 19 '15 at 9:49 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted Try to change the repository using the button Change. The miktex package manager fails with the message "Remote file not found". I got the package from http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/pbox and tried to make it, but it attempts to run /usr/bin/install which isn't on my Windows machine. What should I do? Is anyone else able to install pbox? installing miktex share|improve this question edited Apr 28 '12 at 22:46 Speravir 12k749105 asked Apr 27 '12 at 14:32 Limited Atonement 4381615 add a comment| 2 Answers sty not found 2 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted You don't need any extra binaries to install such a package. Since you have the files run tex (or latex) on pbox.ins this will input pbox.dtx and generate pbox.sty which is the package file you are after. If it is in the current directory it should just work with your document. You can latex pbox.dtx to get the documentation if you do not already have it (the ready made pdf is already on ctan). share|improve this answer answered Apr 27 '12 at 14:45 David Carlisle 348k278311447 That's excellent news, I'll give it a whirl. How do I make it so that I don't have to have the .sty in my PWD? –Limited Atonement Apr 27 '12 at 15:03 1 that would depend on how miktex manages TEXINPUTS but I don't use miktex, but actually if you want that it's probably best to fix the package manager install then miktex will "know" it is there, and handle future updates more cleanly. I gave the answer I did as often it's useful to know that packages not needing fonts etc don't really need installation you just need a local copy of the file. –David Carlisle Apr 27 '12 at 15:39 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote I just installed pbox with the miktex package manager without any problems. I used the repository at the fu berlin. share|improve this answer answered Apr 27 '12 at 14:52

Maybe , you can change to another website. –Nax Aug 3 '13 at 6:27 I have exactly the same problem. Tried multiple different mirrors but i keep getting the 404 Error when trying to install listings package. Installing other packages from the same mirrors works flawless so the problem seems to be specific to the listing package. EDIT: I finally managed to download the package. It seems to be really a problem with some mirrors but it's not limited to a single one but seems to be quite widespread. I had to go through around 5 mirrors to finally find a working one. –user34641 Aug 5 '13 at 9:34 If a Windows machine run your editor as an administrator. TeXnicCenter suffers continuously from this for some reason. –percusse Aug 5 '13 at 9:42 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 13 down vote accepted It appears that the package exists in all the repositories but has a .tar.lzma extension instead of a .tar.bz2 extension. I updated the listings entry in the mpm.ini file (in the /config directory where MiKTex is installed) to specify type as TarLzma instead of TarBzip2 and the problem was solved.
