I am using MiKTeX 2.9 and TeXnicCenter to compose and execute my LaTeX file(s) on Windows 7. I am using a template from Elsevier to submit a journal article, but I am getting the LaTeX Error caption.sty download that File 'numcompress.sty' not found. This file is currently located in the same directory as the other elsarticle files: C:\Program Files (x86)\MikTex 2.9\tex\latex\elsarticle. I have actually followed the directions posted to the above question exactly: http://tex.stackexchange.com/a/20121/ but still have had no change in outcome. packages miktex texniccenter elsarticle share|improve this question edited Jul 20 '12 at 21:37 doncherry 29k19112179 asked Jul 20 '12 at 20:42 user16810 2 If numcompress.sty is in this directory, and you clicked refresh FNDB, it should works. Did you try to compile your file without TeXnic center? –corentin Jul 20 '12 at 20:52 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 14 down vote Are you using MikTeX as User or as administrator? To be safe change to adminstrator, check wheather your file numcompress.sty is really in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\MikTex 2.9\tex\latex\elsarticle. Now start MiKTeX 2.9 over Windows start -> all programms. Choose Maintenance (Admin), then Settings (admin) (Admin is important!). Now choose General and click Refresh FNDB. Afterwards you can change to user again and run MiKTeX. Refresh FNDB means refresh your database for the used filenames. share|improve this answer edited Aug 25 '13 at 11:56 answered Jul 20 '12 at 23:50 Kurt 23.5k837112 add a comment| up vote 4 down vote As others answer already said: You should update the FNDB in admi

Both packages are written by the same author. The newer package subfig replaces the older package, but it is not fully backward compatible (see the package documentation). Unless you have an ancient TeX distribution, you can install the missing package via the package manager of your TeX distribution. As subfigure is deprecated, you might consider using package subfig instead (the latter also requires package caption). share|improve this answer edited Dec 20

LaTeX Error: File `psfrag.sty' not found. but I followed the instructions for package not found psfrag installation found here: http://cerium.raunvis.hi.is/~tpr/latex/ (section :Changing MATLAB figures to native LaTeX using PSFRAG) here is what I did: 1) Ive downloaded psfrag.dtx and psfrag.ins I put them both in a new directory I called psfrag with the path C:\Program Files\MiKTeX\tex\latex\psfrag 2) made the psfrag.sty,psfrag.pro files using 'latex pasfrag.ins' 3) coppied psfrag.pro to C:\Program Files\MiKTeX\dvips\base 4) picked sty not found start->miktex options->file name database->refresh now any help? in the meanwhile I put the sty and pro files in the same folder of my tex file and it seems to work but I still prefer to know where did I fail to follow the instructions. thanks all If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link: U_Fischer - 2007-01-06 You mean psfrag.sty is in C:\Program Files\MiKTeX\tex\latex\psfrag and LaTeX doesn't find it? In this case either C:\Program Files\MiKTeX is not a real Miktex root or updating the file name database failed. Try to close YAP and then refresh again. You can also call texhash or initexmf -u on a command line (this gives better error messages). Btw: There is miktex package for psfrag. Why don't you use the package manager to install it? Announcements Search Extended search File search Location: CTAN tex-archive macros latex contrib psfrag Directory macros/latex/contrib/psfrag READMEThis is the 00readme.txt file to accompany PSfrag, a system for LaTeX to integrate LaTeX equations with Encapsulated PostScript figures. These files compose the April 11, 1998 release of PSfrag 3.04. This is a maintenance release, and fixes some bugs and shortcomings in version 3.03. If you decide to install this release, you should not need to re-compile any of your files, unless you happened to encounter one of the bugs in an earlier version. +-------------------------------+ |QUICK INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS| +-------------------------------+ 1. Run LaTeX on psfrag.ins, generating the package file psfrag.sty and the PostScript header file psfrag.pro. 2. Place psfrag.sty anywhere in your TeX search path; for kpathsea-based systems such as teTeX, this is determined by the TEXINPUTS variable. 3. Place psfrag.pro where your DVI-to-PostScript driver (e.g., dvips) can find it. For kpathsea-based systems such as teTeX, this is determined by the DVIPSHEADERS variable. For dvips in particular, this includes the directory containing tex.pro and special.pro. More complete instructions are found in pfgguide.{tex,ps}. The files example.eps and testfig.eps are needed to typeset the documentation, so do not delete them if you want to re-generate pfgguide.ps. In fact, a good test to see if your TeX/LaTeX/PSfrag installation is working properly is to rename pfgguide.ps, generate a new pfgguide.ps from the .tex file, and compare the two files. +------------------------------------+ |IMPORTANT NOTES FOR PSFRAG 2.X USERS| +------------------------------------+ Note that PSfrag 3.x is quite a bit different from previous versions. The interface has been preserved, but the most notable difference is the absence of the preprocessing script ps2frag. That's right: _you will no longer need to run
