Download PCRE from PCRE.org 2. Compile it with a prefix and install it: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/pcre make make install 3. Go back to where your Apache installation is and compile Apache with PCRE: --with-pcre=/usr/local/pcre share|improve this answer edited Feb 9 '13 at 2:19 uınbɐɥs 5,27241639 answered May 23 '12 at 9:35 MrROY 5,321125491 18 I had to designate the pcre config location explicitly like ./configure --with-pcre=/usr/local/pcre/pcre-config in CentOS 6.3 –Troy Knapp Aug 21 '12 at 0:54 Does the httpd make process statically link with PCRE? or do I need to include them with the compiled httpd stuff if I tar it and share it? –nterry Nov 2 '13 at 1:12 2 Same here, I needed to state the full path name of the file for RHEL 5: --with-pcre=/usr/local/bin/pcre-cofnig –Eric Mar 7 '15 at 0:38 Eric the spelling mistake for config in your comment wasted my two hours x( please edit –MohitC Feb 16 at 6:06 and finally after several hours my command ./configure --with-included-apr --with-pcre=/usr/local/pcre/bin/pcre2-config is successful.. This turns up libpcre3-dev and libpcre++-dev lighttpd will use one of those no doubt Any reason you're compiling lighttpd yourself? Why not install using apt-get? including lighttpd-dev lighttpd-doc and some related modules. share|improve this answer answered Feb 15 '10 at 0:19 Matt 12.3k1587173 Thank you. I get it to run and use 'lighttpd.conf' (provided in doc directory). But when I hit the browser with '127.0.0.1' I can't see anything. Any idea? ps -ef |grep lighttpd root 10315 1 0 18:06 ? 00:00:00 ./lighttpd -f lighttpd.conf –silverburgh Feb 15 '10 at 2:25 Check the log files. Make sure there is nothing else using the port configured in lighttpd.conf. Check the configuration file as well. –Matt Feb 15 '10 at 20:08 add a comment| up vote 5 down v
