Try just http://localhost Or http://127.0.0.1. If the latter works, but not the first, localhost, then you'll need to update your hosts file, and add an entry for localhost that points to 127.0.0.1 Cheers, BSolveIT Website Design If you get an answer to a question, please mark it as the answer. If I go to localhost, the default page is displayed, so the web server is ok. I have added a folder with a page in it in the \inetpub\wwwroot directory. The full path to the page is http://superuser.com/questions/741486/page-not-found-in-iis-but-its-there then C:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder\file.html. I have restarted the services but if I navigate to localhost/folder/file.html I get a 404 file not found error. Obviously I have forgotten something simple, but what is it? :) iis http-status-code-404 share|improve this question asked Apr 14 '14 at 10:44 user1301428 1,75042247 Check error log, you will find what exactly it is searching –Sai Apr 14 '14 at 11:56 @Sai It is searching that exact file: GET /folder/file.html - 80 –user1301428 Apr 14 '14 at 12:08 I think this is from access log, there will be error log, whenever it fails...! –Sai Apr 14 '14 at 12:10 @Sai Uhm, weird.. I've created a simple index.html page in C:\inetpub\wwwroot, and I have also shown a screen shot of my advanced settings: In Firefox I can't browse to my localhost and I receive a 404, I can't even use the IP of the computer I'm using. I don't understand what's up here...this shouldn't be that difficult. I feel like I'm missing something obvious...I'm not a webmaster obviously, just trying to learn a new skill.
