But whenever I type sudo apt-get install jabref in terminal, it says package not found. What's going wrong here? Do I apt-get 404 not found debian squeeze have to capitalise the exact letters as in the application name or do I need some additional steps to make sure the terminal looks at the correct repository for the particular installer? command-line package-management share|improve this question edited Aug 6 '12 at 19:28 Eliah Kagan 56.3k15163256 asked Aug 6 '12 at 3:38 Roy 2093713 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Execute sudo apt-get update first and then try installing jabref again. share|improve this answer edited Aug 6 '12 at 19:28 Eliah Kagan 56.3k15163256 answered Aug 6 '12 at 3:50 Vikramjeet 1,41072139 add a comment| up vote 5 down vote Make sure that Universe repository is available in software sources as here . Tick mark it if Unticked initially. Then do sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade. Check if jabref is present by apt-cache show jabref. And finally sudo apt-get install jabref . No capitalization of any word is required however. share|improve this answer answered Aug 6 '12 at 3:50 atenz 9,09832948 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using

I'm having a problem with apt-get. I'm trying to install aMsn or eterm, so I enter the following command: apt-get install eterm or apt-get install Eterm but however I try, it always says: Couldn't find package 'eterm'. I'm having the same problem with every other package I try to install. Does anyone has an idea what I should do about this?
