'more code going on So, above is an excerpt from my code. I simplified it as much as http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27125876/runtime-error-424-in-vba-access possible without changing context. The situation is as follows: I have two tables and want to check whether a person from Table1 is already present in Table2. If that's the case then just ignore it. Whereas if it's not, then I want to check another condition in Table1 (if DateTime field [Accepted] is not NULL) and if it is satisfied to proceed with processing that person's data. However, even though I am able to get the rst1![Name] properly, when I get into the inner if I get the 424 runtime error: Object required. Any ideas how to overcome this? vba ms-access access-vba share|improve this question asked Nov 25 '14 at 11:46 pkrysiak 107110 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted The second If-statement should read If Not IsNull(rst1![Accepted]) Then The Is-operator is used to compare object references, thus the error message. share|improve this answer answered Nov 25 '14 at 11:48 paulroho 930718 Works like a charm, thanks a lot! –pkrysiak Nov 25 '14 at 11:51 Please accept the answer. The code is bigger but I've just stopped on the line where I get the error. You also use dim question as long, this confuses me a bit because I thought long meant an integer (there are min and max values but I cant remember). share|improve this answer edited Nov 12 '15 at 14:56 answered Nov 12 '15 at 14:50 LiamH 1,1831526 Well spotted! @joao: please add Option Explicit to the top of your module. This doesn't cause the Object Required error though. It will cause other problems down the road.
