vote 2 down vote favorite Dim maker as String Set Maker = Forms![A]![B] I can't seem to get this to work. Every time it runs, it gives me an "object required" error. This is contained within a greater module, but this is the only aspect of it that is giving me a problem. Basically, I want "maker" to be equivalent to the contents of a text box runtime error 424 object required vb6 named B on form A. Any suggestions? vba ms-access share|improve this question asked Dec 18 '12 at 13:51 user1706975 105410 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted Do not use Set unless you are assigning an object: Dim maker as String Maker = Forms![A]![B] For an object: Dim maker as Form Set Maker = Forms![A] share|improve this answer answered Dec 18 '12 at 13:53 Fionnuala 77.2k666111 Worked like a charm. The code is bigger but I've just stopped on the line where I get the error. Dim frm As Form, ctl As Control Dim varItm As Variant Dim stgMO, stgPID, stMail, stgMailCC As String Dim Question As Long Dim OutApp, OutMail As Object http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33669014/object-required-error-424-ms-access-2010 Set frm = Forms!Overview Set ctl = frm!cl_onboarding stgMO = ctl.Column(7) stgPID = ctl.Column(2) stgMail = ctl.Column(8) stgMailCC = ctl.Column(9) Question = MsgBox("Do you want to send an e-mail containing the codes for this Agent?", vbYesNo, "Send e-mail") If Question = vbYes Then Set OutApp = Outlook.Application object access-vba required share|improve this question asked Nov 12 '15 at 10:14 Joao Alves 61 What happens if you change Set OutApp = Outlook.Application to Set OutApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application") –HansUp Nov 12 '15 at 20:20 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote you have dim stMail as a variable but then you use stgMail. just check your spelling. You also use dim question as long, this confuses me a bit because I thought long meant an integer (there are min and max values but I cant remember). share|improve this answer edited Nov 12 '15 at 14:56 answered Nov 12 '15 at 14:50 LiamH 1,1831526 Well spotted! @joao: please add Option Explicit to the top of your module. This doesn't cause the Object Required error though. It will cause other problems down the road. -- Long is a 32bit signed Integer. –Andre Nov 12 '15 at 19:33 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote You need to set a Reference

Question: In Microsoft Access 2003/XP/2000/97, I'm using VBA code to set a value on another form and I keep getting a "Run-time error '424': Object Required" error. I can't seem to figure out object required why it won't work. The object that I'm referencing is valid and it should work. What am I doing wrong? Answer: The problem isn't your code, it's that the Visual Basic editor does not recognize your form. In fact, the Visual Basic editor will not recognize your form until you've invoked the Code Builder (for your form or any object on your form) at least once. Let's look at an example. In time error 424 our database, we've created two forms - one called form1 and another called form2. We've invoked the Code Builder on form2. When we take a look at the Visual Basic editor, we can see that form2 exists, but we can't see form1. To fix this problem, we'll open form1 in design view. Next, display the properties for the Form object. Click on the button (with the three dots) on the "On Open" event for the form. When the Choose Builder window appears, select Code Builder and click on the OK button. Now when you return to the Visual Basic editor, form1 would appear in the list. You can actually fix this error by invoking the Code Builder on any event in the form (or any one of the objects on the form). We've just chosen the form's "On Open" event for demonstration purposes. Now when you run your VBA code, the "Object required" error should no longer appear. Object required error in MS Access George Jones asked Dec 19, 2011 | Replies (4) I am trying to email 4 reports out in pdf format using outlook. I have the email portion and pdf creation down fine they work well. When I try to use the button I get the following error Run-Time error '424': Object Required The line that it highlights is the following: oAccess.DoCmd.SelectObject ObjectType:=acReport, ObjectName:=repName, InDatabaseWindow:=True What I have done in this code is to create a recordset that contains the report name, email address, cc etc. I then use this recordset to populate the sections in the email (i.e. recipient, cc, body) I am using the same recordset in the line that errors out I tried to put the recordset result in a variable named "repName" and pass it to the parameter for the object name in the DoCmd above Apparently
