Office 2007 Repair Fails
FEATURES ONLY TRIVIA Search How-To Geek Detect and Repair Applications In Microsoft Office 2007 How many times have you had microsoft office 2007 reinstall a Microsoft Office application crash or lock up your system? The worst culpritsseem to be Outlook and Access for me. At my workplace we are running Office 2003 and when a crash or problem occurs https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/924611 it means wasting time hunting down the problem, doing arepair installation, or doing a complete uninstall/reinstall of the office suite. Windows Office 2007 has a new feature (which replaces detect and repair)which allows you to diagnose and repair problems when they occur in your daily tasks. The diagnostic utility will check the Windows system event log, hard drive, memory, application compatibility, updated service packs, and Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/microsoft-office/detect-and-repair-applications-in-microsoft-office-2007/ (SMART) if your hard drive supports it. I know it sounds like a lot, but let me show you how easy this is to run. Start \ Programs \ Microsoft Office \ Microsoft Office Tools \ Microsoft Office Diagnostics The Microsoft Office Diagnostics splash screen will open. Click Continue. Next you are presented with the Start Diagnostics Screen showing you what is going to be checked and the status of each diagnostic. When you are ready click Run Diagnostics. While the Diagnostics run you will see the status bars as each tests completes. When it's complete hit Continue. You will get a limited detail of what was fixed. In this example all 5 diagnostic tests ran and one problem was identified and fixed. If you ok with that just close out and you are done. If you want to get additional information click on "Detailed results". When you look close at the detailed information in this example you can see there was a problem with the installation and this tool automatically fixed it. Unfortunately for an administrator or power user this utility "as is" does not display specific results (you need to do more digging). However when you are in a hurry and need your applications
After upgrading to Outlook 2007, I get a data file error every time I open Outlook. The exact error message I see is "A data file did not close properly the https://mcpmag.com/articles/2007/06/05/repairing-outlook-2007-data-file-errors.aspx last time it was used and is being checked for problems. Performance might be affected while the check is in progress." After a few minutes, I see the error https://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/usingscanpst.htm message "Data file check complete." I'm guessing that Outlook is checking for errors, and since it doesn't find any, does not repair them. But if there isn't a problem, office 2007 why does Outlook keep checking in the first place? --Tara Tara, several others have run into the same problem that you describe. I have also personally had to work through this issue as well. When Outlook continually looks for data file errors, that's because Outlook believes there is a problem. However, to repair any errors, the data file microsoft office 2007 -- more specifically the Outlook .pst file -- needs to be offline. So to correct the problem, you will first need to determine the location of your Outlook pst files. To do this, follow these steps: In Outlook 2007, click the Tools menu and select Options. In the Options dialog box, click the Mail Setup tab and then click the Data Files button. In the Account settings window, you will see all of your personal Outlook data files listed. Here, you want to note the full path to each data file. On my system, my Outlook personal and archive folders are stored in the C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Wolf\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. Once you have this information, close the Account Settings dialog box and then close the Outlook Options window. Now that you have the location of your Outlook data files, you need to check and repair them using the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool-SCANPST.exe. By default, you should see SCANPST.exe in the Microsoft Office installation folder's "Office 12" subfolder.
