file could not be opened. Operating System Error Code 3 up vote 11 down vote favorite I'm trying to set up a Stored Procedure as a SQL Server Agent Job and it's giving me the following error, Cannot bulk load because the file operating system error code 32 failed to retrieve text for this error reason 15105 "P:\file.csv" could not be opened. Operating system error code 3(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105). [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 4861) Funny thing is the Stored Procedure works just fine when I execute it manually. The drive P: is a shared drive on Windows SQL Server from LINUX via Samba Share and it was set up by executing the following command, EXEC xp_cmdshell 'net use P: "\lnxusanfsd01\Data" Password /user:username /Persistent:Yes' Any help on this would be highly appreciated sql-server stored-procedures samba sql-server-agent bulk-load share|improve this question asked operating system error code 53(failed to retrieve text for this error. reason: 15105). Oct 21 '13 at 10:17 user1345260 45841227 1 Looks like a permissions issue. The SQL Server Agent usually runs as a different user / with different permissions compared to when you run it manually. Does the Agent work if the file is in a local directory? Is the the Agent also running the net use command? –acfrancis Oct 21 '13 at 10:50 The agent is not running the net use command. I haven't tested that as I don't have RDP access to the SQL Server –user1345260 Oct 21 '13 at 10:53 Well, does it work if you add the net use cmd to the Agent job? Without that, I'm pretty sure the P: drive will only be available in your username's Windows session, not the Agent's. –acfrancis Oct 21 '13 at 11:02 I can add the net use command but the only question then would be it will try to map the directory every time the job runs, so for example the second time it runs and when it tries to assign P: Drive again it will give an error. How do I get this one sorted? –user1345260 Oct 21 '13 at 11:04 1 Run a net use /delete P: to remove it after the bulk load –acfrancis Oct 21 '13 at 11:08 | show 1 more comment 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 23 down vote I dont know if you solved this issue, but i had same issue, if the instance is local you must check the permis

However, my company's data is in SQL Server. In order to access it, I need to use VMWare Fusion to run SQL Server Management Studio 2008 on Windows XP. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8658828/path-not-found-bulk-insert-into-sql-server-via-vmware-fusion When I attempt to run a bulk import (via instructions from SQLAuthority.com), I get this error: Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot bulk load because the file "H:\test.CSV" could not be opened. Operating system error code 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). I am dealing with 3 different file locations, but none of them work. My Mac storage - "/Users/Admin/Documents/test.CSV" My Windows XP storage - My "C:" drive. "C:\test.CSV" My company's network location - Mapped to the "H:" drive via Windows XP. "H:\test.CSV" Changing the script to point to all these locations provides the same error message. Any thoughts on how to overcome this? Presently, my only alternative is to use the SQL Server Import/Export tool, but it takes a while to setup every import. Script is faster. sql-server filesystems windows-xp vmware-fusion share|improve this question edited Jul 15 '15 at 8:20 Jordi Castilla 16.4k52048 asked Dec 28 '11 at 16:54 mikebmassey 1,866114065 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote accepted A bulk insert runs from the server.

For example, to make c:\Data\data.txt available to other servers, you'd start by sharing the c:\Data folder as "PublicData", and then you'd reference the file as \\machine-name\PublicData\data.t
