I had a Canon MP780 printer already installed but the printer portion of it stopped working, though the scanning portion of it still works. I tried to install the Windows 7 drivers for HP Photosmart C4400 but the keep telling me that there is an error with my printer spooler. I have gone into the spooler properties and everything looks set up right but when I try to manually start it I receive the same message. I am just looking for a fix so that I can print. I don't care how the fix occurs or if I use another program as long as it doesn't effect the rest of my computer and I don't have to pay an arm and leg for a simple fix like Dell and Microsoft want me to do. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. It told me to restart so I restarted, which did not start the Print Spooler. I went to manage services and tried to start https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/186dc55d-b423-4624-808c-07f1f177fb83/printer-spooler-error-2the-system-cannot-find-the-file-specified?forum=itprovistahardware the Print Spooler, where it gave me "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." I looked up its properties, where I found that it is set to Automatic. The Print Spooler depends on Remote Procedure Call (RPC), and hpdj00 depends on the Print Spooler. HP deskjet 5700 series was my old printer. I already uninstalled all of the HP Deskjet and Officejet software using its uninstallers, and I force uninstalled it all https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-print-spooler-will-not-start-error-2.940986/ again using RevoProUninstaller. After the uninstalling and restarting, I still cannot start the Print Spooler, and continue to see the hpdj00 dependency and Error 2. I can think of two possible explanations: 1. In uninstalling the HP printer software and deleting the leftover folders, I accidentally deleted a Print Spooler file that I need. Everything can be reinstalled from the HP CD or restored from the recycle bin, so this should be reversible. 2. Some piece of HP printer software is STILL on my computer, disabling the Print Spooler. I have an HP Pavillion a1101n, Windows XP Home SP3. The HP printer programs I uninstalled are: HP PSC & OfficeJet 4.7 HP Deskjet 5700 Series HP Deskjet Printer Preload Thank you! Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified Posted on April 15, 2013 by Thomas Strubinger in Computer Repair When attempting to print or access printers all of them were missing. Trying to start print spooler from services.msc and get the following error "Could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." The Fix for: Could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified on a similar version of windows go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\ and copy SPOOLSV.exe on to a flash drive (You can also retrieve this file from the original CD) on the computer that has the issue paste this file in to the same place. Restart computer or start print spooler from services.msc The reason this happens usually this happens because some malware infested the file and then the anti-virus deletes due to infection. While this is a critical file for printing it will not affect the ability for your computer to boot. This could also be caused by someone intentionally deleting the file, regardless the error states the file no longer exisit in the place the OS is looking for it. replacing the file will correct the issue. If you found this helpful, please leave a comment below. this has just worked for me, if you have this problem, give this a try: on the windows cd, copy SPOOLSV.EXE to C:\WINDOWS\system32. make sure the extension is exe (you might have to left click the file and add the last e), double click it. right click my computer, click manage, on the left click services and applications, click services. on the right side, look for print spooler, double left click on it, select start, close the system services window. this should fix that problem.
