I received the message "print spooler not running" Installation cannot start the print spooler service. Start the service now using Windows NT service manager and then press OK." I have no idea what happened or where to start to fix it. Also, I tried to restore to a week earlier to see http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forum/helproom-1/print-spooler-not-running-error-23-244341/ if this would restore the printers but the restore failed . Which that error message implies. Mizzing, Oct 3, 2008 #5 crsaj Thread Starter Joined: Jun 7, 2002 Messages: 909 Yea, I do have a more serious issue than I thought. The computer crashed (blue screen fatal error message) I think my only recourse now is to reinstall XP but do not have a recovery disk. I will need drivers. Thanks for suggestions. crsaj, Oct 3, 2008 #6 Mizzing Joined: Sep 29, 2008 Messages: 8 Before you go about reinstalling Windows run a chkdsk on the drive. it might be able to fix the problem. get the print spool service to run. I've tried several suggestions from other's problems but to no avail. I even reinstalled Windows from the CD, but when it tried to copy the spoolsv.exe file it failed - I finished the reinstallation anyway. Now the computer is http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/print-spooler-problem.2692362/ up and running but I still can't fix the spooler problem. I tried to start the spooler http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowledgebase/articles/215714-23-data-error-cyclic-redundancy-check using the services.msc window, but when I click the start button I get " Error 23: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" What else can I try? Don't know, but a CRC error print spooler error is usually caused by hardware. You ought to run the manufacturer's diagnostic program before going any further. which need urgent investigation. The error will also almost certainly arise if you try to copy the file using Windows Explorer. This article has more details.Note that the error may be on either source/left or destination/right, unless either of these is a non-Windows resource such as FTP, in which case it will be on the 'other side', as it is not possible for a non-Windows resource to return a Windows error message - ipso facto, the error is coming from the side where Windows is 'involved'.It isquite possible you also see the Windows error 1392: "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" in such circumstances. The reasons will be much the same - disk or folder\file corruption.
