HI, If you do a google search for DLNA 501 PS3 you'll see that error 501 seems to be Sony's "catch all" error for DLNA so its not caused by 1 thing, but any number of things that Sony are yet to define specific error codes for. This is also why is keeps coming up and never appears to be fixed, as there is no 1 fix for it and what does fix it for some, doesn't for others. It also happens on any DLNA server, not just the Plex one which means there are plenty of fixes for you to try out there on the big wide internet. I would suggest doing that google search and trying the fixes that have worked for others, which seem to range from; - updating your PS3 firmware - rebooting your PS3

I stream video to my PS3, Samsung Blue ray player and Samsung TV. I've never had an issue with watching anything I've added to my library. I've had to add a switch to my setup because I've finally ran dlna protocol error out of hard wire ports for my devices. Since I've added the switch (Cisco SD2008) suddenly I cannot stream anything through DLNA. My PS3 gives an error message of "Media Server Error: A DLNA protocol error (501) has occurred" and when I go into my AllShare program on my Samsung no videos are found. But the weird thing is is that Plex Media Server runs just fine. Plex doesn't play a lot of my videos and it's not the most friendly or fast program to use so I'm really stuck in a hard place here. I'm really hoping someone can give me advice to fix this problem. I would greatly appreciate any help resolving this issue. Get all Cat 6 cables so running at Gigabit. ensure NAS and Switch have Static IPs. This seemed to make everything happy once again and worked.Incidently, I agree with your view on Plex, I wondered what else are you using to stream movies to tv /

I'd already tried those things and it didn't help.I installed TVersity (again) this morning, and it worked great. But then again, it used to work, then not work, then work, which iswhy I uninstalled it.When the streaming works, it's awesome. It takes no time at all tobuffer and start playing. We've got the whole season of True Bloodwaiting for us. Blig Merk 2008-12-26 00:56:36 UTC PermalinkRaw Message The latest version of Tversity is working great for me but I like my1080p and 5.1 streamed with no transcoding and I am wired from the PCto the PS3 through a gigabit router. Once the movie is in AVCHD/AC3,Tversity will stream it to the PS3 with no loss in bitrate or qualityor framerate. Wireless will not handle this throughput. I got a biggerhard drive for the PS3 to store HD movies on but it is working goodenough that I can store them on the PC now. This new Java PS3 media server is getting some good impressions withpeople that weren't happy with Tversity, mainly because of the MKVstream issue. Tried it out and it seems pretty decent, no installrequired, about a 7-10 second buffer setup during transcode streaming. It does seem to handle more diverse containers than Tversity can.Might be worth a shot, no commitment required.http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/Download pagehttp://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/list Rx 2008-12-26 08:54:14 UTC PermalinkRaw Message "Blig Merk" <***@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:a5c4dcb1-655b-45ae-9167-***@g39g2000pri.googlegroups.com...Meanwhile the PS3 is dead last in the console race and getting pounded todeath by Microsoft and Nintendo.
