queue and it will not connected to the remote servers.It gives "SMTP protocol error occured"in the additional information for the queue.Once we restart our exchange server then the mails in the queue will be delivered and the external mails will work fine for few days. I looked into the Message queue on my SBS2k3 server and noticed that several recipients are showing up in the protocol error has queue with a state of "Retry". When I highlight the recipient, the additional queue information says "An SMTP protocol error occured". Also, if you have SMTP logging enabled you can check that. You can also telnet to the SMTP server on port 25 and go through parts of the process to see if anything comes up. The website cannot be accessed from external to the network (works internally)2. The Exchange webmail cannot be accessed from external to the network (works internally)3. The client computers have trouble sending emails through Exchange. Most emails turn up in the Exchange Queues with one of the following "Additional Queue Information":a) An SMTP protocol error occurredb) The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink.c) The remote server did not respond to a connection attemptA few emails do go through, however.
