All of sudden starting a few weeks ago, ALL the users from another city (who uses remote desktop) is complaining that they are kicked off the session once or twice a day with the message "Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected". I googled this message and found numerous solutions to try, so I decided to post the question because I can't possibly try/apply all of those remedies. I am wondering if un-checking check boxes for "Visual styles" and "Persistent bipmap caching" will resolve the problem ... but then no user has changed the settings in remote desktop or know how to make these kind of changes. So that leaves one possibility - something happened to my terminal server settings. One thing that I did a few weeks ago was to set up another Virtual Machine (on VMWare box) to run Norton End Point Protection Management Center. Perhaps this new virtual machine took away some of the resources from TS virtual machine? Maybe not lik
Protocol error when using terminal services (Remote Desktop) Think you've found a bug in a BETA version of Cerberus FTP Server? Post a description here. Nice software. I use Cerberus on my Server in a data center. I often login remotely with Microsoft's Remote Desktop. I would say 90% of the time if I'm adjusting any parameters in protocol error the user, server, ip blocking, sections ... i get a error saying that ... you will be disconnected because of a protocol issue. I then have to ... keep trying to reconnect to get back in. It lets me back in .. but as soon as the screen pops up on the other desktop i receive the same error and once again disconnected from because of a Terminal Services. After about the 10th time.. i can log back in and continue messing with the parameters in Cerberus where i left off. This error ONLY happens when I'm in the Cerberus section adjusting settings. I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but its pretty darn annoying when you trying to add a new user and you get disconnected over and over .. and finally after 5-10 minutes.. your able to log back in and finish the process. Hopefully you can solve this issue. I would appreciate it. Other then that .. it works great for me. BTW .. the remote server is running XP pro ... as well as the Computer I'm logging from. I'm running version 2.2 beta3 at the moment. Ive tried other versions as well, and it seems to happen with all of them. Thanks for listening .. Hope you can fix it. on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, and then stops remote controlling, one or both sessions are disconnected with the following error:Remote Desktop DisconnectedBecause of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again. CAUSEThis problem occurs if Remote Desktop Connection Client version 6.0.6001 or 6.0.6002 is used with the highestRDPCompression setting. Windows Server 2008 SP1/SP2 defaults to a lowerRDPCompression setting, and thus will only exhibit the above symptoms if the setting has been changed to "Optimized to use less network bandwidth", which is the maximum. Windows Server 2008 R2 defaults to the maximumRDPCompression setting.WORKAROUNDChange theRDPCompression setting on the server to "Balances memory and network bandwidth" (recommended) or "Optimized to use less memory" using Group Policy. If using Windows Server 2008 R2 you may also choose "Do not use anRDPcompression algorithm". An alternative workaround is to use a different Remote Desktop Connection Client version than those mentioned above, however, this may not be practical. Below are instructions for making the change to the local group policy; if preferred you can use a domain group policy instead.Windows Server 2008 R21. In the left pane, under Computer Configuration, navigate to following:Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment4. In the right pane, double-click on Set compression algorithm forRDPdata5. Select Enabled, and choose Balances memory and network bandwidth6.
