When connecting to a particular remote machine FROM a 2008 R2 server, we are getting a Windows Sockets rdp because of a protocol error this session will be disconnected connect failed message. We are able to connect to other servers from the 2008 server and are able to connect to the particular remote from Vista, Win7, XP, 2003 server etc. Find Reply Andreas Mariotti Posting Freak because of a protocol error detected at the client (code 0x2104) Posts: 3,307 Threads: 209 Joined: Aug 2006 Reputation: 13 #2 12-04-2010, 05:03 PM Maybe something simple like wrong network configuration, name resolution, firewall, authentication, etc.? Some special configuration on the “problem” servers that is diffrent from the working ones? Can you connect to the "problem" server with MSTSC.exe? configuration, name resolution, firewall, authentication, etc.? Some special configuration on the “problem” servers that is diffrent from the working ones? Can you connect to the "problem" server with MSTSC.exe? Cannot connect with mstsc.exe between these 2 servers. Here is another really odd thing: The 2008 server is running hyper-V. The virtual server that runs off this machine (same OS), can connect the the server in question. The remote server is a client's server, so there is not a lot I can do to troubleshoot that server. As I mentioned, we are able to connect to the remote server from everywhere in our network, except from the one server. Can you ping or tracert the target, and can you try “Telnet

Protocol error when using terminal services (Remote Desktop) Think you've found a bug in a BETA version of Cerberus FTP Server? Post a description here. Locked Print view Search Advanced search 2 posts • Page 1 of 1 Lackatee Protocol error when using terminal services (Remote Desktop) Quote Postby Lackatee » Fri Sep 17, 2004 5:51 pm Hello. Nice software. I use Cerberus on my Server in a data center. I often login remotely with Microsoft's Remote Desktop. I would say 90% of the time if I'm adjusting any parameters in the user, server, ip blocking, sections ... i get a error saying that ... you will be disconnected because of a protocol issue. I then have to ... keep trying to reconnect to get back in. It lets me back in .. but as soon as the screen pops up on the other desktop i receive the same error and once again disconnected from Terminal Services. After about the 10th time.. i can log back in and continue messing with the parameters in Cerberus where i left off. This error ONLY happens when I'm in the Cerberus section adjusting settings. I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but its pretty darn annoying when you trying to add a new user and you get disconnected over and over .. and finally after 5-10 minutes.. your able to log back in and finish the process. Hopefully you can solve this issue. I would appreciate it. Other then that .. it works great for me. BTW .. the remote server is running XP pro ... as well as the Computer I'm logging from. I'm running version 2.2 beta3 at the moment. Ive tried other versions as well, and it seems to happen with all of them. Thanks for listening .. Hope you can fix it. The problem sounds like it could be a bug in the Remote Desktop Management software. You are the first user to report this issue.
