vote SYMPTOMS When a user remote controls another user's session using Remote Desktop Services Manager or Terminal Services Manager on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, and then stops because of a protocol error the client could not connect to the remote computer remote controlling, one or both sessions are disconnected with the following error: Remote Desktop Disconnected Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again. CAUSE This problem occurs if Remote Desktop Connection Client version 6.0.6001 or 6.0.6002 is used with the highest RDP Compression setting. Windows because of a protocol error this session will be disconnected windows 10 Server 2008 SP1/SP2 defaults to a lower RDP Compression setting, and thus will only exhibit the above symptoms if the setting has been changed to "Optimized to use less network bandwidth", which is the maximum. Windows Server 2008 R2 defaults to the maximum RDP Compression setting. WORKAROUND Change the RDP Compression setting on the server to "Balances memory and network bandwidth" (recommended) or "Optimized to use less memory" using Group Policy. If using Windows Server 2008 R2 you may also choose "Do not use an RDP compression algorithm". An alternative workaround is to use a different Remote Desktop Connection Client version than those mentioned above, however, this may not be practical. Below are instructions for making the change to the local group policy; if preferred you can use a domain group policy instead. Windows Server 2008 R2 1. Logon to the Remote Desktop Services Session Host computer as an administrator2. Start--Run gpedit.msc3. joe0 ⋅ 4 Comments Following is a solution for RDP error: Because of a protocol error detected at the client code 0x1104 this session will be disconnected. Two ways to fix the http://www.joe0.com/2013/08/23/solution-for-rdp-error-because-of-a-protocol-error-detected-at-the-client-code-0x1104-this-session-will-be-disconnected/ issue: 1. In your RDP client settings, remove all checkmarks from Experience tab (see https://forum.devolutions.net/topic24664-protocol-error-for-rdp-sessions.aspx screenshot below). This seems to work for most people: 2. If you're running your RDP server on a non-standard port (such as port 443-https), then it's possible some other app is fighting over the very same port. In that case, you'll need to find out what else may be using the port assigned to RDP protocol error (i.e. 443 in my example) on your server. To do so, following steps will help you determine this: - Open a command prompt window. From Start / Run enter: cmd - From the command prompt enter: netstat -ano 1 netstat -ano - Look for PID which indicates usage of the port 443: - Mark down PID, then download Tcpview and run tcpview.exe. Search for PID you've found by using command because of a line netstat call. You'll find what app is taking over your RDP port. In my case, I could see that Skype is trying to run its service on port 443: - Solution in this case would be to completely close out of Skype. Or simply Kill/Uninstall or temporarily disable the Skype. While in tcpview, you may as well do so: Let me know if this helped. This worked. Doing this will save you quite a bit of time. Reply↓ Arg on June 20, 2015 at 7:26 am said: Nope, nothing works. Wanna blow my brains out. Protocol Error for RDP Sessions Brendan ThompsonPosts: 105 Hey guys,After around 3 RDP sessions are opened in RDM i get hit with the follow: Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.Unfortunately once that happens the only way to fix it is by restarting RDM. No matter how many times you try or even different RDP sessions it just won't get through.I am running the latest RDM on a 32-bit install of Windows 7. Are there currently any known errors? Thanks,Brendan -Brendan about 9 months ago Sjoerd van den BergPosts: 268 Yes, I have the same thing. Also colleagues of mine have this. It happens after more than x RDP tabs are opened. The number changes but mostly more than 8 sessions have to be opened.Could this be a memory issue?I know that in the past I could open 30 sessions easily. Cheers!Sjoerd (twitter.com/chanlerone) about 9 months ago David HervieuxPosts: 13258 Yes it's a memory issue. You could try RDM 64 bit. RDP 8 is really heavier on memory. Sadly the 32-bit OS is something that's enforced. -Brendan about 9 months ago David HervieuxPosts: 13258 The large memory aware setting could help you.
