Boot fail, lsass.exe not loading Started by Josiah23 , Aug 16 2012 11:52 PM Please log in to reply 6 replies to this topic #1 Josiah23 Josiah23 Members 15 posts OFFLINE Gender:Male Location:Vanuatu Local time:07:04 PM Posted 16 August 2012 - 11:52 PM I am an experienced home user, but I have a Lenovo G550 Laptop with with XP. I forgot the Admin password that I recently gave it, and tried to hack the password with a utility on a Ultimate BootCD 4Windows, boot disk. it didn't work and it upset windows somehow so it no longer goes to the Welcome screen. I have tried to do a safe mode "repair" boot, system restore etc, to no avail. It always goes to lsass.exe error . with a long error code. I have downloaded a live CD for Ophcrack and can boot it up, but don't know how to use it yet, it is complicated. Is there anything easier for password reset? I don't need to know the old password, and there are no other users on the laptop, so a reset would be easier than decrypting Thanks in advance Roger Back to top BC AdBot (Login to Remove) BleepingComputer.com Register to remove ads #2 noknojon noknojon B

When I last booted it gave me the following error message: lsass.exe - System Error Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: The handle is invalid, Error Status: 0xc0000008. Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Safe Mode, check the event log for more detailed information. I tried this and I get the same error no matter what mode I try to boot in. I tried to Boot to Directory Services Restore mode and got the same error. How can I resolve this? Regards, Ron Jan 5, 2005 #1 poertner_1274 secroF laicepS topShceT Posts: 4,172 I would suggest a repair of XP All the information you need should be in there. Jan 5, 2005 #2 rkscmhoh TS Rookie Hi , I am in the same unfortunate situation. I have read a lot on this and found out that if XP is failing to load because of the SAM initialization error, then both repair or recover will fail as they both use authentication , which will eventually fail again ( refer microsoft kb 316751 ). I used the popular freeware ReadNTFS to view the C:\windows\system32\Config directory where the SAM file is located and to my surprise, I did not find it. However, there is a file called SAM.log in there. If only I could copy the SAM file from C:\Windows\repair folder to the required location, I guess that would resolve my problem. In the above Microsoft KB, they generously mention that this would be the resolution. But hey Microsoft
