and TDD. Error when adding roles or features in Windows Server 2008 ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ David Hernández DíezJune 9, 20099 0 0 0 I wanted to add a new feature in my Windows Server 2008 but how to add roles in windows server 2008 r2 had problems when viewing the server management console: "Server Manager encountered an adding roles in windows server 2008 unexpected error while collecting data about the status of this computer" when clicking in the detail link it said something windows server 2008 roles explained like "Cannot open an anonymous level security token. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070543)" I have encountered this error a couple of times . I guess it is some configuration it gets changed when installing windows server 2008 roles list some products. I tried many diagnostic tools and un/reinstalling some KB hotfixes that some forums recommended, I also installed the SP2 but at the end the solution was simpler (at least for my case) (extracted from http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservermanager/thread/f80a52fc-b022-4dd4-af35-621f1e7fe67c/#page:1): From an elevated* cmd window run: Dcomcnfg.exe *Or click through the UAC prompt 2. Properties tab. 5. Select Connect in the Default Authentication Level drop down list if it is set to None. Choose OK, confirm selection in popup and close dcomcnfg.exe. 6. If the authentication level is not set to None, don't change it, since it may have been set by something else (such as an Admin). Server 2008 Unexpected Error Refreshing Server Manager Exception From Hresult 0x800f0818
Manager Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi, I am receiving an server manager encountered an unexpected error while collecting data about this computer error when trying to load roles and features. After clicking on either rolls or features it displays "Initial unexpected error refreshing server manager no signature was present in the subject configuration tasks encountered an unexpected error while collecting data about the status of this computer." I'm not sure what caused this error. I've ran the System Update Readiness Tool and https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/davidhernandez/2009/06/09/error-when-adding-roles-or-features-in-windows-server-2008/ it just asks me "Do you want to install the following Windows software Update? Hotfix for windows (KB947821)" I hit "Yes" and it installs the update but then nothing happens. CheckSUR.log displays "CSI Unable to Query Store Version Total count: 1" The command sfc /scannow doesn't work. It displays "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." Thanks. Kevin NiPlease remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This sometimes also fixes the problem with Roles and Features not working, especially if Go to Solution 25 Comments LVL 51 Overall: Level 51 Windows Server 2008 12 Message Expert Comment by:Netman662009-01-23 What happens from an Elevated CMD prompt if you run this command:? ServerManagerCmd -query I suspect the same. There is a role that was added or removed that never completed
gives error and you can not add or remove roles or features. It may also fix any windows updates that fail and will not install. This happened to me when trying to install .net 3.5 sp1. This seems to be a problem with x64 Vista and Windows 2008. Steps (10 total) 1 Error Screenshot This is the error you get in System Manager when the roles fail to load and you cannot add or remove them. This is the error we are fixing but this may also fix other failed windows updates that cause other issues also. 2 Download System Update Readiness Tool http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 This tool will tell you what is missing or corrupted. Run it on the server having the issue. (it may take a little bit) 3 Check error log Check C:\windows\logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log This file will list which .mum and .cat files need to be replaced or added. 4 Download the update that is corrupt At the beginning of the file name you will see the KB number. Download the full KB install package and open it with 7-zip(http://www.7zip.com/). 5 Drill into the KB file Drill down into the file and find where all the .mum and .cat files are. Look for the files that the error log said were missing. Once you find them copy both the .mum and .cat with that name to some other folder. Also copy update.cat and update.mum to this folder. You may not find one of the file names but we take care of that in the next step. 6 Rename files For the files you could not find, rename the update.mum and update.cat to whatever you need them to be for the missing file. Make sure you keep the file extensions the same. 7 Copy files Take those files and copy them to C:\windows\servicing\packages Before you can do this you will need to change ownership to administrator and change the security so you can copy the files to this folder. Overwrite any files that are already there. 8 Run windows update Run windows update if any updates were failing and try to just install the failing one. If the update still fails then something is wrong and more files will need to be replaced. I rebooted every time I copied the .cat and .mum files but you might not have to, so either reboot and run the System Update Readiness Tool again or just run it without rebooting. If none were failing then just reboot. You will need to reboot to test the System Manager. 9 Repeat steps If this did not work then run the System Update Readiness Tool again. After you run the System Update Readiness Tool again just follow the steps again from there. 10 If ev
