To resolve the issue sudo cupsctl --debug-logging Then switch off the debug logging with sudo cupsctl --no-debug-logging I ubuntu reinstall cups suspect the problem is due to a missing directory because comparing the default, previous & current revisions of the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf did not show anything that could cause problems. I'd also go far as to

say that you don't need to turn on debug logging in-order to resolve this issue, it can be any of the options that can be set via cupsctl as it checks the configuration of the system, this is just a theory as I was unable to dig further because I was on a production system. Resetting the printing system did not solve the issue when attempted previously. This

I would love to know what actually happened to make this work. As you already saw, cupsd.conf didn't change. Andrew 17/04/2012 at 2:06 am I tried sudo cupsctl -user-cancel-any and that made things work. So the OP's guess that this doesn't have anything to do with logging seems to be correct. Patrick 05/06/2012 at 9:37 am Thanks a lot for this tip. Found you using Google based on CUPS error, applied the cupsctl logging trick, and cups admin services were available again. There Was An Error During The Cups Operation: 'server-error-internal-error'.
"500 internal server error" [Solved] When I try to access any of the tabs within the Cups web interface I get a "500 Internal Server error" Tips I have read on the forum suggest possible corruption (or permissions change) within a system file as a result of the addition of some recent package, however I don't think I have added https://www.geeklan.co.uk/?p=642 anything recently so don't really know where to begin. The general advice I found was to reinstall Puppy (I will have to do this by reverting to an older and somewhat undesirable savefile...) but before I do that I wondered if it might be possible to do either of the following: 1) Uninstall Cups, reinstall another version, then revert to original version if necessary. 2) Grab the Cups files from a 6-month old savefile (more fool me...I http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=718053 should backup more frequently) and replace all the current Cups stuff with those older files. Does anyone think these may be valid possibilities? I have Cups 1.4.6 running on Slacko 5.3 Last edited by greengeek on Sun 11 Aug 2013, 14:30; edited 1 time in total Back to top SFR Joined: 26 Oct 2011Posts: 1517 Posted: Fri 09 Aug 2013, 16:33 Post subject: Re: Cups "500 internal server error" greengeek wrote: Tips I have read on the forum suggest possible corruption (or permissions change) within a system file as a result of the addition of some recent package, however I don't think I have added anything recently so don't really know where to begin. Hey Greengek I think this might be the cause indeed. Could you check what are the permissions on some crucial directories like /usr, /usr/bin, etc.? The output should be: Code: # ls -ld /usr /usr/bin /usr/local/bin /usr/share /root drwxr-xr-x 108 root root 1040 Aug 9 22:15 /root drwxr-xr-x 70 root root 240 Jan 1 2008 /usr drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 100 Aug 9 18:37 /usr/bin drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 Aug 9 21:55 /usr/local/bin drwxr-xr-x 237 root root 360 Jan 1 2008 /usr/share # If you'll get something else, like: drwxrwx--- so this is probably the cause and the fix would be: Code: chmod 755 /root /usr /usr/bin /usr/local/bin /usr/share Greetings! _________________

Have downloaded driver from Lexmark. Installed the ppd_file and system seems to like it. Problem I am having is the next step is Configuring Printers in CUPS. It says to open a browser and then ...http://localhost:631/admin....every time I do that it gives an internal server error. I tried http://127.0.0.1:631/admin but have the same error. Then I left the admin part out and the Cups page comes up. But any link on that page will give the internal server error. I tried both firefox and konqueror New installation of opensuse 12.3...what gives? Have you done all the updates on 12.3 after install. I use CUPS 1.5.4 with openSUSE 12.3 with no issues. Does the cups page ask for a password? Is the printer seen in YaST-->hardware-->printers? I use a brothers printer and have to install the drivers first thru YaST. Is the ppd shown in /etc/cups/ppd/ folder? N
