I then went to Settings/All/System/Printing, and pulled up the printing dialog box. server error At the bottom of the box, it said "not connected". I clicked on Server/Connect/Connect, and got: CUPS server error There was an error during the CUPS operation; 'failed to connect to server'. I did not get this error with 0.1.6 or 0.1.4. Does someone have a suggestion? Did I #@% up the install? Do I have to reinstall? I did get some extra stuff when I installed HAL for the Places gadget. Thanks in cups server error advance! Posted 17 March 2011 - 12:29 AM Jeff: thanks for getting back to me so quickly! The process outlined below (apt-get install --reinstall cups)did indeed deal with the server problem in my initial attempt. However, the process failed later. When I clicked on the "+" sign to add a printer, CUPS successfullyfound and identified it. The next dialog box asked me to enter ahuman readable location, which I did. But when I clicked on "apply", itrattled around for two minutes or more, and finally ended the attemptwith an error message:CUPS server error (adding printer hp-Laserjet-2420)There was an error during the CUPS operationoperation: 'server-error-service-unavailable'I did a search on this term on the Ubuntu forum, and got no hits. So I went to the cups log on my system, and found this:localhost - - [16/Mar/2011:13:07:47 -0400] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 2197347 CUPS-Get-PPDs -localhost - - [16/Mar/2011:13:07:58 -0400] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 2197347 CUPS-Get-PPDs -localhost - - [16/Mar/2011:13:08:05
