It used to?? I have just tried copying part of doc to new doc and create TOC for the partial doc. It works???? jack jac

Do you have to set up a table of field names ahead of selecting the insert "index table" drop down option? I keep getting the following error: Error! No table of contents entries found. I need the steps that you need to take to build a new table of contents that will contain bookmarks. Thanks tuccokeith View Public Profile Send a private message to tuccokeith Find all posts by tuccokeith #2 05-20-2003, 11:39 PM KenAlcock Offline Registered User Join Date: Apr 2003 Location: Michigan Posts: 1 Word 2000 Help Topic Field Codes: TOC { TOC [Switches ] } Builds a table of contents. The TOC field collects entries for a table of contents using heading levels, specified styles, or entries specified by TC (Table of Contents Entry) fields. Word inserts the TOC field when you use the Index And Tables command (Insert menu). My Advice to you: Learn how to use Styles in Word. The simplest way to create a TOC is to have used outline styles throughout your document (Heading 1 through Heading 9) for each chapter and section heading in your document. Having done this, when you go to create a TOC, Word assumes everything with a heading level style is subject that you want to list and link in your TOC. It actually works quite well. If you aren't using Styles in Word, then you really aren't using Word for much more than a glorified text editor with some minimal formatting. I strongly suggest if you routinely produce long documents that you spend some time taking a Word class. Believe me, you will thank yourself for spending the time and money after you take such a class. Make sure the class covers advanced topics of indexing TOC, Styles, long documents, figures, tables, outlines, and like subjects.
