working fine, as I can successfully ping 'google.com' with these results:Code: Select allPING google.com (74.125.67.100) 56(84) bytes of data. returns an [Errno 12] Timeout error. We hit a bug in yum which exists in CentOS 5 and is apparently fixed yum errno 12 timeout on http in CentOS 6. The bug manifests itself when you've got the global environment variable http_proxy set to some value. We have this value set to our proxy server. The servers yum timeout operation too slow are behind a proxy and need to use the proxy to access externally hosted yum repositories. We also have an internal yum repository which we should access without using the http://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14128 proxy. support@appserver01 ~ $ echo $http_proxy http://www-proxy.my.example.company.com:8080 We use other command line tools such as wget and curl which rely on having the http_proxy environment variable set in order to access external sites. We also set the proxy entry of our /etc/yum.conf file to use our proxy server. support@appserver01 ~ $ cat /etc/yum.conf [main] cachedir=/var/cache/yum keepcache=0 debuglevel=2 logfile=/var/log/yum.log distroverpkg=redhat-release tolerant=1 exactarch=1 http://joeyoung.io/yum-errno-12-timeout-error-work-around/ obsoletes=1 gpgcheck=0 plugins=1 proxy=http://www-proxy.my.example.company.com:8080 The above yum configuration is fine for most of the repos we'll be using as they're all external. However there is one internal repo in which we do not wish to use the proxy when connecting to it. We tried to define this behavior by adding a proxy=_none_ entry to that repository file for that internal repository. support@appserver01 ~ $ cat /etc/yum.repos.d/internal-example.repo [example-repo] name=EXAMPLE YUM repository baseurl=http://192.168.10.10:8081/repositories/internal-yum-repo enabled=1 protect=0 gpgcheck=0 metadata_expire=30s autorefresh=1 type=rpm-md proxy=_none_ Unfortunately, our version of yum ignores the proxy=_none_ directive when the global http_proxy environment variable is set. Accessing the repo results in the [Errno 12] Timeout error. support@appserver01 ~ $ yum repolist Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, priorities, security http://192.168.10.10:8081/repositories/internal-yum-repo/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 12] Timeout: Common F23 Bugs Common F24 Bugs Communicate with Fedora The Documents Bug Reports Fedora Update System (Bodhi) Fedora Build System (Koji) Official http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=226928 Spins FedoraForum.org > Fedora 23/24 > Using Fedora yum - all mirrors timing out FedoraForum Search User Name Remember Me? It has started urlopen error timed developing problems with yum not being able to talk to any repositories. It was just kind of sketchy for a while but it's now not working at all. I have tried editing /etc/yum.repos.d/* to force the baseurl instead of mirrors, with no success. And I've done a yum clean all about 100 times. Is there a particular port that yum uses? I know our IT trolls have been busy adding more windows boxes to the network closet, it's possible they decided our firewall didn't block enough useful things. I've always assumed yum relied only on port 80. I have been scouring the internet for a couple of days and have not found anything that has fixed my problem.A few place suggested editing the file '/etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo' and removing a hash (#) from the line beginning '#baseurl=' but this did not fix my problem. However, the output from 'yum update' changed to:Code: Select allLoaded plugins: fastestmirror
