I realize that this is my first post, and to be honest I do not post on any forums, but any help that anyone may have for me will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,Paul AMD Phenom X4 9600 Quad-Core 2.3Ghz Asus M2N68 AM2+ Motherboard 4GB DDR2 Ram 160GB SATA HDD DVDRW Drive 512mb Geforce 8400GS Wireless Card Windows X
users of legacy Steinberg Cubase software Post a reply 3 posts • Page 1 of 1 Reply with quote Error too many tracks recording!! by nick name » Wed Aug 31, 2011 5:09 pm So I used to have a piece of crap computer with the minimum requirements, on board firewire, and Cubase Studio 4 and never had any issues. Since I upgraded my computer to a new Windows 7, 6gb Ram, TB harddrive yada yada I've been getting this "error too many tracks recording", even when only recoring one track. I've upgraded to Cubase 6, installed a pci express firewire card with the http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11768 TI chipset, upgraded from M Audio Project Mix to Allen & Heath ZED R16 and STILL....same problem. Most currently I've been running 8 tracks - 1 guitar, 1 bass, 6 on the drums. The strange thing is that we can make it through some songs just fine but when things get a little loud and intense is when Cubase can't handle it.I read somewhere online that excessive vibration to the https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=82690 harddrive can cause this. My questions are: Is there any truth to the above statement? Is there anything else that could be causing this?If necessary I can post more detailed info about my processor, etc but it should be more than sufficient for what I'm trying to do. nick name New Member Posts: 1Joined: Wed Aug 31, 2011 4:28 pm Hasthanked: 0 time Beenthanked: 0 time Private message Top Reply with quote Re: Error too many tracks recording!! by Conman » Wed Aug 31, 2011 6:13 pm Seeing as you mention it gets loud and a hint about Drive vibration first place I'd check is the hard drive housing. Maybe someone forgot to clip the latches or put too few screws in. Maybe the latches and / or housing is flimsy or a bit slack. Cardboard wedges can sometimes help temporarily.Could also be loose connectors so check those. And a hard drive performance checker might also throw up some answers.First call: Right clcik on the drive and goto Properties and then Tools and check for errors there. I switched from my MR816 to an Edirol interface (both drivers updated to the most recent versions) and I copied the project from my external Glyph HD onto my internal HD but the problem persists. The strange thing is: before the update, multitracking was no problem at all... I could record more than 8 tracks simultaneously with the same setup. Any help would be seriously appreciated! The problem I’m having is that when trying to record using cubase on my laptop, after 30 seconds or so cubase stops recording the audio and displays the message "Too many tracks recording at once" this message appears regardless of how many tracks are recording 1 or 10. The only work around I’ve found for this is that once you receive the error message, deleted the track that you just recorded and start recording again on the same project and it doesn’t seem to error. But even with the work around that has so far worked (we’ll doesn’t error after 30 seconds – 20mins) I'd still like it not to error. My laptop has a good spec and does not hit the CPU limit (not even close) and the hard drive had plenty of space left. It’s a fairly new laptop so it doesn’t need defragging (not full of crap) etc. I have tried creating a new project each time or using a template ive set up but still gets the message. The only thing my problem has in common with all the other people on the web that have reported this is that we're all experiencing the error using Vista (I cant find any one who’s getting the message on XP (Maybe a red herring or may be the problem)) I used to use Cubase SX3 on my old XP machine using exactly the same equipment and never had a problem Equipment I’m using: Edirol UA 101 Cubase SX3 Laptop Spec Windows Vista Hard Drive - 80BG (With over 40 GB free space) RAM - 1.5 Gig I’m hoping someone can help me with this issue as I need to be using this to do some live recording work.
