To be honest it seems the onlywayout of the condition is to delete all shadow copies for the effected data source replica volume. We have automated scripts to help if you havemany effected volumes. UPDATE: 10-16-13 - The Windows support group investigating this has discovered a change in behavior in Windows 2012 on how it reacts to Disks disappearing and re-appearing when VSS shadow copies are stored on separate volumes, which is the way that DPM configures shadow copies for DPM replica volumes. There is no fix for this issue yet, but the workaround to allow new recovery points (shadow copies) to be created is to delete all shadow copies for the effected replica volume(s). This does delete all DPM recovery points for the effected data sources, but will allow you to start making new ones. Unsure if there is an actual fix in the works from the Windows group to avoid doing that. I recommend opening a Windows support ticket to get current status and possible alternate solution. UPDATE 1-14-14 The Windows group has released a preventive fix for this issue. Please install to avoid future outages. Monitor an unlimited number of servers with $49/year With the current low prices for servers and the need for processing power, even a small company may end up with quite a few of them. If ten years ago it was still common http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-12289-source-VSS-eventno-2714-phase-1.htm to see an entire company using just one server, these days that's no longer the case. New computers are added to the network with the understanding that they will be taken care of by the admins. Keeping an https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/291008-recurring-vss-error-in-event-log-with-event-id-12293 eye on these servers is a tedious, time-consuming process. Even with 5 minutes per server (to check the logs and other parameters), it may take an hour to make sure that everything is ok and no "red lights" vss error are blinking on any of the servers. read more... Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I'm running Windows Server 2008 SP2. In the event log, I keep seeing this recurring error every 5 minutes. I am unaware for how long this has been occurring because the event log for these messages only goes back a few days. I assume it's been happening for much longer than that. There are three drive partitions: One for the operating system, one for data storage, and one as the Windows Server Backup location.
