Contributor 14 Answers Re: My Hotpoint WMF540 (Aquarius) keeps displaying DOOR... I know this is an old question but for the benefit of anyone else having the problem, here's how I fixed it on our machine ( a WMF540 P (UK) R ). Our clicked about 6 times then displayed the "door" error. The clicking noise is the solenoid inside the door interlock. The fact that it was clicking showed that it was functioning. Just as a precaution I removed and disassembled the interlock to check it and everything inside was fine. Next, I removed the rear panel of the machine, took off the drive belt, disconnected the white plug and earth lead from the motor. Undid the two bolts holding the motor and dropped the motor out of the bottom of the machine. The commutator was completely black. I removed the carbon brush holders and gave everything a blast of compressed air to get rid of the carbon dust. I then used a piece of very fine wet and dry abrasive paper and cleaned the commutator so t

It may indeed be full of water - but not necessarily. This error code is used on some Indesit washing machines too Before a washing machine spins the laundry it needs a signal that the water has pumped away successfully so it knows that it's safe washing machine to spin. This error indicates that for various possible reasons it's not getting that signal. This can be caused by a pump fault or blockage in the filter, but if this is the case then clearly when the fault occurs it should be stuck full of water or at least still have a fair amount inside (if so follow this not draining water guide and help stuck full of water). But if the water has pumped washing machine door away OK and you still get this error then it's not a pump blockage, it's a fault elsewhere. Suspects are that the pressure switch itself is jammed, (i.e. the switch is physically stuck), or it's being jammed on by air pressure due to a blockage in the pressure chamber bottle at the bottom of the thin tube (connected to the pressure switch). This can hold air pressure in the tube keeping the pressure switch on. In the latter case, pulling off the small tube at the base of the pressure switch should result in an audible click as the pressure is released and the pressure switch springs back to off. Other faults listed as possible causes for this error are faulty connections and even the pcb, which I wouldn't advise replacing. If you have this fault and can't see anything obvious - call an engineer Related to F05 fault finding How a washing machine controls water levels Faults on pressure system Comments Disabled Sorry, comments on this topic have been closed. Washing machine door locks & interlocks How can you tell if a door interlock is faulty? Washing machine door locks really only get 3 major faults The points between live and common fail in some way. The NTC heater or bi-metal strip fail. The plastic gets to hot and distorts inside the lock causing it to jam. Understanding how a door interlock works helps you decide if it is faulty or not. Washing machines must have some way in which you can lock the door closing mechanism when the machine is started up and then unlock them with a certain delay (normally two minutes) after the current has switched off via the program or on/off switch, in order to ensure that the door cannot be opened while some of the components are still rotating initially (in particular the motor and the drum of the spin-dryer). When you shut the door, the latch on the door pushes inside the door lock onto a sliding bar which moves over and activates an electrical part inside which locks the door shut. At the same time, power is passed through the interlock on to the res
