Restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer” Thursday, September 17, 2009 6:21 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote Hi, I have tested it on local machine. Windows Media Center can play DVD and VOB files without problem. This issue is mainly caused by graphics drivers. I would like to confirm disc prohibits playback in your region which model of Computer and Graphics card is used. At this time, you may try removing and reinstalling the graphics card: Reinstall driver ============== 1. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Double click to expand "Display adaptors". 3. Right click your graphics card and click Uninstall. 4. Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK. 5. Restart the computer 6. Click the Start Button, Type "appwiz.cpl" in the start search box and press Enter. 7. If any graphics card software is installed, please uninstall it. If it persists, test it in Clean Boot mode. You can also contact the manufacturers to confirm its Windows 7 compatibility. Hope it helps.Vivian Xing - MSFT Marked as answer by Vivian Xing Wednesday, September 23, 2009 1:57 AM Monday, September 21, 2009 3:50 AM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote I am also suffering the same problems myself. As mentioned DVDs will play fine in Media Player just not in Media Center. I am running on an Acer Revo (Aton N330 board with Nvidia ION chipset). I have my revo connected via HDMI to my Amp for Audio & video and then video onto LCD.

When I try to play a DVD through Windows Media Center, I get this error message: "Cannot Play DVD The https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/34003120-fa36-4737-9752-30c7def447da/problem-playing-dvds-within-windows-media-center?forum=w7itpromedia DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are closed, the video resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD." The DVD player in my laptop is a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-826 ATA Device. There are no applications open other than Windows Media Center. The resolution for http://www.eightforums.com/software-apps/13660-windows-media-center-unable-play-dvds.html the player is set to my current, and recommended, screen resolution (1400 x 1050). The DVDs that I'm using aren't ripped (I bought them). My DVD player is set to the proper region for the United States (region 1). The driver for the DVD player is up-to-date. I also have VLC Media Player on my laptop and it plays DVDs just fine, so I'm guessing that the problem is with Windows Media Center, not my DVD player. I'm out of ideas on what to do.
