E76 Ethernet Error Fixed - $28.85 Started by bedojunkmail , http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?/topic/722870-e76-ethernet-error-fixed-2885/ Oct 28 2010 02:10 PM Please log in to reply 6 replies to http://www.ehow.com/how_6966617_fix-xbox-360-e76-error.html this topic #1 bedojunkmail bedojunkmail X-S Young Member Members 40 posts Posted 28 October 2010 - 02:10 PM I'm posting this in case it might help someone who has a similar problem.A few weeks ago I had a lightning hit that took out my receiver, sub woofer, Ethernet switch, and some other xbox error miscellaneous gear. Luckily I had my Jasper 256MB Jtag Xbox 360 unplugged from the power. Well it turns out that I wasn't so lucky, because I had left the Ethernet cord plugged in.When I turned out the Xbox, I got the one red light and error code E76 Ethernet Error. After reading through these forumshttp://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=689249,I figured out that the likely cause was the Ethernet controller chip e76 error xbox (ICS1893BFLFT) behind the Ethernet port on the motherboard, and it's damn small (about 3/4" with 48 pins). I did not see any burn marks or scoring on the chip, but I figured what have I got to lose, so I ordered some parts from Digikey:Ethernet Chip - $3.24http://search.digike...e=800-1017-1-ND10x magnifier Loupe - $1.91http://search.digike...ame=243-1021-NDChipQuik SMD Removal Kit - $13.50http://search.digike...mp;name=SMD1-NDTotal with Shipping: $28.85All you really need is the chip, but I'm definitely an amateur at soldering, so the 10x Loupe was really helpful to check the pins, and the ChipQuik removal kit made taking off the old chip easy. The ChipQuik kit comes with a coil of low temperature solder, syringe of flux, and alcohol pads to clean with. You can see several examples of ChipQuik in action on Youtube.I used a 3/16" flat solder tip with temperature set around 560 degrees F.Here's a pic of the board with the chip removed:Putting the new chip back on took a bit of work to line up the pins, and of course I used too much solder and had to solder wick a bunch back off.I hooked all the parts back up, and Success! The damn thing actually worked.(A
Toys Video, Computer & Internet Games Xbox 360 How to Fix XBox 360 E76 Error How to Fix XBox 360 E76 Error By Cory Lewis eHow Contributor Cory Lewis Follow Pin Share Tweet Share Email Save Video game controller image by Christopher Meder from Fotolia.com No matter how long you have had your Xbox 360, the time may come when one day it doesn't perform like it used to. Knowing about the various possible problems and issues and how to effectively deal with them can be the difference between a headache or a working console. The E76 error can be one of the most frustrating to an avid Xbox 360 game player. Things You'll Need Xbox 360 Console Opening Tool Continue to play normally if your console is working. If it is not working at all, proceed to Step 2. Send your console back to Microsoft for repair if it is still under warranty. Locate the appropriate contact information via the Resources section. If you do not have a warranty any longer, you can attempt to repair or replace the ethernet chip (specifically, the ethernet port's controller chip, the root of the E76 error). Remove the faceplate. Look at the gray bottom vent plate. There should be six tabs holding it into place. Gently pull up on the plate while simultaneously releasing the clips by pushing in with the opening tool (or another similar tool). Begin at the front of the case then proceed to the back, alternating sides as you go. Maintain gentle pressure pulling it up and away as you go. Move to the front plate after removing the bottom plate. Begin removing the tabs in the same manner you did with the bottom plate starting with the front two. Identify the motherboard and look behind the network connector. The chip should be located in this area. It should be a small, square, flat and black chip. Remove and replace the chip.
