In the past I've used CUPS on my Desktop and I'd just point the browsers http://askubuntu.com/questions/23936/how-do-you-administer-cups-remotely-using-the-web-interface to localhost:631 to set things up. Can I used the web based admin tools remotely? I've been playing with the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and am currently at the point where I can direct a browser on my LAN to server-ip:631 but I'm getting the 403 Forbidden error. If it's not possible or it's a bad idea for security reasons to allow remote administrator of CUPS, would it be possible to accomplish this using an SSH tunnel to the sever? server printing share|improve this question edited Jan 31 '11 at 7:42 htorque 37.4k25146197 asked Jan 29 '11 at 21:37 Evan 1,22031823 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 25 down vote accepted Mission achomplished! All three printers run OK. From a laptop, thru a wifi I can access the server CUPS interface with http://192.168.2.20:631. When I click on the "printers" tab I get the following message: 403 Forbidden. I can't access the printers from the laptop although the network itself is working ok. What I am missing? Check the "Allow from" and the "Listen" options and make sure you use the correct values.
