I have an ASP .Net Web Site which I can deploy and uselocally with no issues (Window 7 Enterprise SP1, machine has .Net Framework 4.5.1 installed, IIS 7.5, Application Pool uses Framework v4.0.30319, Site deployed using Visual Studio Express 2013 for Web, Published via VS using File System method). When I try to deploy the same to a server I http://forums.asp.net/t/1991253.aspx?404+Error+on+IIS+7 am able to view the default page correctlyusing the URL http://server/directory/ in the browser, but am unable to access any of the pages when specified directly ie. http://server/directory/default.aspx. The error i receive is :- "404 - File or directory not found. The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable." (Virtual Machine, Windows Server Standard 6 - SP2, IIS 7.0, machine has .Net Framework 4.5 Installed, Application Pool uses Framework v4.0.30319, as above) I have tried various suggestions but no resolution yet. platform and distributed applications A “404 File not found” issue caused by ASP.NET v4.0 Extensionless URL feature on IIS 6.0 ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ APGC DSI TeamDecember 7, 20110 0 0 0 Symptom https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/asiatech/2011/12/07/a-404-file-not-found-issue-caused-by-asp-net-v4-0-extensionless-url-feature-on-iis-6-0/ ======= After IIS is restarted, my customer received “404 File not found” error when he tried to visit his web site, e.g http://servername/ . If he visited http://servername/index.htm, he would get the page successfully. The failed request in IIS log is: 2011-12-01 09:38:43 W3SVC1 127.0.0.1 GET / - 80 - 127.0.0.1 404 0 At the beginning, this problem seems to be related to the Default Document 404 error setting. But actually the server should return “Directory Listing Denied” error instead of “404 File not found” error if Default Document is disabled. The problem may or may not disappear after IIS is restarted. Cause ===== After the debugging, we finally found the “404 File not found” error was returned because IIS could not find the file /eurl.axd/
