ColdFusion 4.5 introduces a site-wide "Missing Template" (404 Error) exception-handling facility. These exception-handling templates can use the full power of CFML to produce highly customized pages. Where do I do this? Administrator Setting: In the ColdFusion Administrator, click on "Settings" to view the "Server Settings" page. On this page it will allow you to specify a template that will be executed when the ColdFusion Application Server cannot find a template or a request fails. The two options you have are "Missing Template Handler" and "Site-wide Error Handler". How does it work? Missing Template Handler lets you specify a default template to execute any time the ColdFusion Application Server cannot find a requested template. Site-wide Error Handler lets you specify a template to execute any time the ColdFusion Application Server encounters errors while processing a request. Below is an example of how to set these up. Did you choose to https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1498894 connect ColdFusion to Apache during the installation? Did you enable the built-in server?-Carl V. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: coldfusion 11 I've installed it - how do I get to cfadmin? happysailingdude Jun 17, 2014 1:43 PM (in response to Carl Von Stetten) Thanks CarlThat's getting closer I think - I got this "Not FoundThe requested URL /CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm was not found on thisserver." but it looks like a cf generated error rather than the other 2urls which was chrome's 404 error.I opted to use the built in cf server during installation - I don't recallapache coming in to the equation at all. I was running cf 10 and that didntinvolve apache as far as I recall..Really appreciate your help, thank you.Anything else I could try? Thanks.ᐧ Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. pages and onMissingTemplate feature in ColdFusion and IIS. So I thought of blogging it for the use of larger audience. Before starting let me setup a platform.Customer Eddard(name assumed) is http://blogs.coldfusion.com/post.cfm/onmissingtemplate using ColdFusion10(valid for ColdFusion11 too) configured with IIS. He has setup onMissingTemplate in Administrator of ColdFusion. Now Eddard expects ColdFusion to run this error page(mentioned in onMissinTemplate), let's call it 404.cfm, whenever user hits http://www.stephenwithington.com/blog/index.cfm/2008/12/30/Using-ColdFusion-to-Handle-HTTP-404-Page-Not-Found-Errors a page which doesn't exist. But suprisingly his browser is not showing the contents of 404.cfm and instead showing IIS 404 error page which is a static file(html file). After a lot of struggle he 404 error finds another confusing behavior that when he access the non existing page from machine where server is running(localhost) then his 404.cfm is getting executed. It's clear from the behavior that there is somehting in IIS which is handling this behavior. In IIS settings he finds out that in "Site->Error pages->Edit feature settings->Error Responses" 3rd option was selected which says "Detailed error for local requests and custom error pages for remote requests". 404 error coldfusion This option clearly explains that if the request will come from localhost then detailed error page will be executed whereas if the requests will come from Remote server then custom error page will be executed, which explains different behavior. So Eddard is curious about two things now that what exactly is custom error or detailed error and how will he show his own error page 404.cfm to his users. So Eddard did a further research and found some answers like this. Custom error page is the feature in IIS by which you can tell IIS to execute a particular page based on particular error code. Eddard saw these settings in "IIS->site->error pages". He clicked on 404 and entered a cfm url in "Execute a URL on this site" setting. This URL pointed to the same page 404.cfm. And Bingo, hitting a request to non existing page executed his 404.cfm and contents were displayed as expected. So Eddard defintely know now that how to show his own error page to a user. But he still was thinking about difference between detailed error pages and custom error pages. Another question that came to Eddard was why onMissingTemplate even exists if he has to use custom error page. Here I will giv
onMissingTemplate method which only runs when a CFML page does not exist (i.e., wwwroot/directory/thisPageDoesNotExist.cfm). In addition, this article will not address using custom headers or a .htaccess file with Apache. This article will address those other "page not found" errors often found in Windows hosted environments. Let's start by assuming someone tries to visit www.yourdomain.com/thisDirectoryDoesNotExist, or www.yourdomain.com/thisPageDoesNotExist.html and neither the directory, nor the page actually exist on your site. Or, better yet, you've just spent months building a new, dynamic site for a client using ColdFusion and their old site was an old, yucky plain HTML site with pages everywhere. Now, your client, who's a little savvy in the SEO department, (that's search engine optimization for you non-seo-knowing folk), has requested you setup redirects for each of his old pages to the new ones you've created. If you're anything like me, I used to dread the thought of taking care of this. I used to spend a ton of time on this by creating a separate page for each of the "old" pages and directories, then using either JavaScript to handle the redirects (if the old page was vanilla HTML) or the "old" dynamic language (i.e., ASP, PHP, etc.) to create custom headers, etc. Regardless, it was a major pain to do this, especially because it cluttered my site with a bunch of extra files that were essentially useless. Then, I had one of those "light bulb moments." I thought, "Hey, I'm already using a custom tag to handle 'page not found' requests, so if I could somehow capture the requested page, match it against a list of 'known-to-be-missing' pages, then I could code a way to forward to the 'new' destination." Sounds simple enough, eh? For those of us using a shared-host provider such as CrystalTech or HostMySite, they're kind enough to allow us to create custom pages to handle certain HTTP errors, such as 404. It's usually found in the service provider's "control panel" under something like "IIS > Custom Error Pages." Once there, you usually have three options to pick from: 1) Default, 2) File and 3) URL. In most cases, "Default" loads the standard error page provided by our friends at Microsoft. "File" is just that, a flat, static, HTML page. What we want to use is "URL," so that we can use ColdFusion to help us out. In fact, I'll be nice and even provide a link to both CrystalTech's process and HostMySite's process. But before you do this, you'll need to at least set up a .CFM file somewhere on your site so y
