Aspx 404 Error
Error when file is exist Aug 09, 2006 01:14 PM|fishlab|LINK Hello All My configuration is IIS 6 under Windows 2003 server Here is my problem: Lets say I have windows user 'user1' that have own folder 'c:\users\home_user1'. http://forums.asp.net/t/1654797.aspx?404+Error+even+though+file+exist+ He have ALL rights for this folder. Now I need to get him access to this folder via web. To do it I create virtual directory 'home_user1' in my IIS admin console and point it to 'c:\users\home_user1'. I allow directory browsing and read this dir. I disallow anonymous access but allow 'Basic Authentication' on this virtual dir. Now Im able to access http://myserver.com/home_user1/ after authorization and see files in it. But once I https://forums.iis.net/t/1016056.aspx?Unexpected+404+Error+when+file+is+exist click at any file in the dir in browser I get error 404 - file not found. Actually files are 100% exists in folder. So, please, any ideas how to resolve it? Probably this is security and permissions problem. maybe somebody cen tell me ideas how rights must be seting up correctly? Many thanks for any help. Here is the full error: The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please try the following: Make sure that the Web site address displayed in 404 error file the address bar of your browser is spelled and formatted correctly. HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. Internet Information Services (IIS) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Technical Information (for support personnel) Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 404. Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled Web Site Setup, Common Administrative Tasks, and About Custom Error Messages. I can get to Default.htm in the same directory, so I know the path is right. I've opened it up to everyone (temporarily) so I know the permissions are right. asp.net share|improve this question edited Oct 15 '15 at 18:27 asked Jan 21 '09 at 21:55 BIBD 9,0232059102 There's a number of different reasons this could be, including handler mappings. What web server are you using? What's the sub error code? –Ray Jan 21 '09 at 22:00 To those of you clicking the link, that's not his actual site. It's, well, an example. –Robert S. The default web site works fine: http://5.9.251.167/ I created a new website, and binding for http://new.ianquigley.com On that server and everywhere else that Domain maps to the IP address. (ping new.ianquigley.com for example). I created the sub folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\com.ianquigley and created an HTML file index.html with the content "cake" The default document for the web site is index.html On the server, in Chrome I browse to http://new.ianquigley.com/index.html and get a 404 Error.
