It seems that large uploads worked previously, but now they don't even though I have all the settings I should need in my web config. Every singly time I upload, it processes very briefly then gives me a 404 - File or directory not found. I have searched far and wide and cannot seem to figure this out. If I lower the limits below the size of the file, it will throw an actual http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14511798/404-error-when-uploading-large-files-4mb-asp-net system exception, but when I raise it again it returns to a 404. Below are the sections I added to my web.config file a while ago: to the base: and to the system.webServer section: I also overrode the applicatioHost.config setting for allowing the web config to override machine level settings. Any ideas? asp.net vb.net web-config share|improve this question asked Jan 24 '13 at 22:14 Chris Brickhouse 578315 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote The two different settings have different units: maxRequestLength is in Kilobytes maxAllowedContentLength is in Bytes share|improve this answer answered May 6 '14 at 13:21 Andy Lippitt 313 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote accepted i answered my own question. both limits were too low. increased both, success. share|improve this answer answered Jan 24 '13 at 22:44 Chris Brickhouse 578315 Hi Brick, Is there is a rule that both attributes should have same values like maxAllowedContentLength="2147482624" and maxRequestLength="2097151" –sankar 2.0 Sep 12 '14 at 12:53 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a

The file size can be limited by the web.config, but a
limited file size to be uploaded to the web server. For IIS 6 and IIS 7, the default maximum file upload size is 4 MB and 28.6 MB respectively. IIS 7 returns a 404 error (HTTP Error 404.13 - CONTENT_LENGTH_TOO_LARGE) if someone uploads something larger than 30MB. In order to allow for larger file size uploads, a few server changes are required. This tutorial is designed for IIS 7.0+. For 5.0 and 6.0, please check here. For Debugging guidelines, please click here. You have 3 available options to increase the file upload limit: 1. Modify the maxAllowedContentLength setting in the web.config You can increase the maximum file size by modify themaxAllowedContentLengthsetting in the web.config file: With the above maxAllowedContentLength, users can upload files that are 2 GB in size. This setting will work right away without restart IIS services. 2. Edit the request filtering feature settings and the request limits using IIS manager Open IIS Manager. Select the website that you want to configure. Make sure you are in Features View per the button at the bottom of the manager. Select Requests Filtering and open it by double-clicking the icon. The Request Filtering pane displays. From the Actions pane on the right hand side of the screen click Edit Feature Settings... link. The Edit Request Filtering Settings window displays. In the Request Limits section, enter the appropriate Maximum allowed content length (Bytes) and then click the OK button. Restart IIS. 3. Manually edit the ApplicationHost.config file ClickStart. In theStart Searchbox, typeNotepad. Right-clickNotepad, and then clickRun as administrator. On theFilemenu, clickOpen. In theFile namebox, type%windir%\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationhost.config, and then clickOpen. In the ApplicationHost.config file, loca
