The target is a VMware Server 2.x box. When I launch the wizard and enter credentials for the powered-on machine, I'm using its IP address and an account in its domain (IT). The VMware Server machine is in a different domain and forest. After I put in the credentials, I get the following error:A general system error occurred: Crypto Exception: error:02001005:system library:fopen:Input/output error:unable to load C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\ssl\rui.crtHere's what I've tried so far:1. Verified that the target rui.crt file exists at the specified path and that the domain account I'm using to run the converter has full access to it.2. Running the converter using the Windows 2003 "Run As" command, specifying the domain admin account I'm currently logged in with and unchecking "Run this program with restricted access"3. Running with "Run As" using a different domain admin account4. Removing and reinstalling the converterThe conversion starts normally if I run the client from the machine hosting VMware Server and let it connect to the agent on the source machine, but I'd like to know why the client fails when run directly on the source, as I have several of these machines to convert. Any suggestions would be welcome. 29677Views Tags: none (add) serverContent tagged with server, vmware_serverContent tagged with vmware_server, p2verrorContent tagged with p2verror, conversionContent tagged with conversion, vmware_converterContent tagged with vmware_converter This content has been marked as final. Also make sure you are using an account to access the instance that has domain admin level credentials... Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. Re: Converter 5.0 error: "Crypto e
2013/02/06 by rcmtech Just installed VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.0.1 875114 by doing a Client-Server installation. I installed the Converter server and Remote access components onto my vCenter server (had to change the ports from 443 & 80 to something else as these were already in use - I picked 5443 and 580), and the Converter client onto my PC. Upon running the client on my PC I entered https://communities.vmware.com/thread/390862?start=0 the server name as vcenterserver:5443 I then started the Convert machine process. After putting in the remote machine details I clicked the View source details… link and got a yellow error bar appear at the top of the Conversion window: A general system error occurred: Crypto Exception: error:02001005:system library:fopen:Input/output error:unable https://rcmtech.wordpress.com/2013/02/06/vmware-converter-crypto-exception-error-02001005/ to load C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\ssl\rui.crt I wasn't able to proceed any further through the conversion process. I did an Export diagnostic logs… from the link at the bottom left of the Conversion window and found the same error in the ConverterDiagnostics20130206131422.zip\worker-source-diagnostics-bvy.zip\vmware-converter-worker-1.log file: 2013-02-06T13:04:50.165Z [10068 error 'Default'] Crypto Exception: error:02001005:system library:fopen:Input/output error:unable to load C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\ssl\rui.crt 2013-02-06T13:04:50.165Z [10068 error 'Default'] Found dangling SSL error: [0] error:00000001:lib(0):func(0):reason(1) A VMware forum post suggests running the client "as administrator" (i.e. right-click and "run as administrator") but this didn't work, same error. Another suggests using the remote machine's IP address, again, no change for me. Yet another suggests fixing the permissions on the referenced ssl folder in ProgramData - whilst checking this I found that I had no ssl folder at all. So I created an ssl folder and ensured that the local Administrators and local Users groups both had Full Control NTFS
