19th, 2012 sanderdaems 3 comments Last week I was migrating some servers from ESX 3.02 to a vSphere 5 cluster, after importing http://blog.vmpros.nl/tag/vmware-converter/ the the exported VM’s I received this error message: The device https://yuridejager.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/vmotion-fails-with-the-error-a-general-system-error-occurred-invalid-fault/ or operation specified at index ‘2' is not supported for the current virtual machine version ‘vmx-04′. A minimum version of ‘vmx-06′ is required for this operation to succeed. A general system error occurred: Invalid fault Solution: The VMware Converter I used was version 4.3.0 a general build-292238 After installing VMware Converter 5.0.0 build-470252 I was able to start the import virtual machine in the new vSphere 5 cluster The import finished successfully sanderdaemsSander Daems is founder and author of this blog and working as a Sr. Infrastructure Consultant by IT-Value. During the VMware Converter Wizard I disabled on the “destination server” the HP PSP Startup services, after the P2V process I runned the PSP Cleaner to remove drivers, services etc. Guillermo Musumeci released in 08/11/2010 version 1.5 Support both x86 and x64 versions of HP Proliant Support Pack. Run in Unattended mode using /NOGUI parameter. To run HP Proliant Support Pack Cleaner, you must run as administrator, or disable UAC on Windows 2008. build 7850 Milestone 1screenshots Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 error: ‘Can't display text, images or objects due to a damaged file' KB2464588 andKB2543541 → vMotion fails with the error A general system error occurred Invalidfault Wed-2011-05-04 3 Comments I experienced vMotion errors. I recieved the generic error ‘A general system error occured: Invalid fault' when trying to vMotion a VM. The VM itself ran fine. I found VMware KB1014371. I analyzed the logs files of the ESXi host. I couldn't pinpoint the cause. My error was different to that in the KB article. In the end, the solution was pretty simple. Shutdown the VM. Remove it from inventory. vMotion all VM's from the ESX hosts (by putting it in maintenance mode), reboot the ESXi host. Ofcourse I re-added the VM, etc. Since then, the error has not returned. If it does return, I must dive deeper into the cause of the problem, but for now, the ESXi reboot was a quick fix.
