95% boot and Stuff! Posted by zen in Linux, Vmware on 01 7th, 2010 | 13 responses So if you are having http://zenware.net/blog/?p=42 any message like the ones above, you probably need to do http://www.omniweb.com/wordpress/?p=747 some of the following: A general system error occurred: Internal Error / Power up of guest stops at 95% / Can't boot after reboot / Cannot connect to virtual machine / Timeout First: Check your log at /var/log/vmware/hostd.log (and check step 5, may be a general your problem is just that strange file) 1) Delete .lck files Go to /var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines or whatever directory/partition you work with your Virtual Machines (the vmdk files and stuff), and delete the files inside .lck directories. Also check the lock file. 2) run vmware-config.pl, reconfigure Virtual Machines run the command: sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl and just press enter a general system (or double check parameters) but try not to modify them, at least YET. 3) Stop the services and restart the server Run the command: /etc/init.d/vmware stop And also: sudo shutdown -r now 4) Start again the server and stop/start the vmware service with the command sudo /etc/init.d/vmware stop sudo /etc/init.d/vmware start 5) If still not having answers, now go to /etc/vmware/not_configured file and delete it (or move it if you want the backup… I'm not sure why since is a vmware created file for the configure flag, but anyways) rm /etc/vmware/not_configured This is the error log i was getting [2010-01-07 11:22:30.923 'Libs' 1095588176 info] readlink /var/run/vmware/4f353c3b407dfebdf718d8ffac18b535: No such file or directory [2010-01-07 11:22:30.923 'Libs' 1095588176 info] readlink /var/run/vmware/%2fvar%2flib%2fvmware%2fVirtual%20Machines%2fSVNyTrac%2fSVNyTrac%2evmx: No such file or directory [2010-01-07 11:22:31.423 'Libs' 1095588176 info] readlink /var/run/vmware/4f353c3b407dfebdf718d8ffac18b535: No such file or directory [2010-01-07 11:22:31.423 'Libs' 1095588176 info] readlink /var/run/vmware/%2fvar%2flib%2fvmware%2fVirtual%20Machines%2fSVNyTrac%2fSVNyTrac%2evmx: No such file or directory [2010-01-07 11:22:31.924 'Libs' 1095588176 info] readlink /var/run/vmware/4f353c3b407dfebdf718d8ffac18b535: No such file or directory [2010-01-07 11:22:31.924 'Libs' 1095588176 info] readlink /var/run/vmware/%2fvar%2fli
on September 29, 2012 by admin Tried to power on a virtual in vsphere and received a generic error: a general system error occurred: unknown error. Turns out a log file had grown too large in the ‘/' folder. Thanks to this post, I was able to figure it out quickly. Here's some more information on this topic.
