Windows Server > active directory domain services starts then stops Directory Services Question 0 Sign in to vote Ihave a crash in one of our ntdsutil repair active directory Additional DC, it contains a very important software so I have to restore it from an image, when I did so it cant boot with https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/258062 an error (Security Account Manaegr initialization failed because of the following error: Directory Service cannot start. Error status: 0xc00002e1 ......). I'm getting the same error even with F8 then, Directory Service Restore mode or Save Mode. The good thing is that I win to move all FSMO to the other DC https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/9c1e2dbf-462a-4e05-8b96-a6dd0dd1c5ff/directory-service-cannot-start-error-status-0xc00002e1-?forum=winserverDS and as well I Metaclean this server, so my Active directory is functioning normal and I have no problem if there is a way to force demoting this server. Note; I have SS backup but I don't know how to restore it since my server is not booting. Directory' started by Muz Francis, Aug 19, 2003. Muz Francis Guest I have a Windows Server Standard 2003 Primary Domain Controller, on which I have just installed Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. The Exchange Server installation completed successfully, and asked me to reboot. After rebooting, W2003 displays "The Active Directory is rebuilding indices. Please wait..." for some time, and then an error message appears "Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: Directory Service cannot start. Error Status: 0xc00002e1. Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode, check the event log for more detailed information" I have searched Microsoft support, and all the resolutions listed there are Windows 2000, not Windows 2003. Please help!! Muz Francis, Aug 19, 2003 #1 Advertisements Matjaz Ladava [MVP] Guest I had this issue yesterday and the problem was related to the security settings on system drive. (It was a W2k system, but it would be the same with WS2k3). Boot into DSRM and check that SYSTEM has permission on system drive + windows directory + \windows\ntds. You can as well run System Configuration and Analysis snapin to check your system against setup template. After I changed security settings, the system booted up normaly. -- Regards Matjaz Ladava, MCSE (NT4 & 2000), Windows MVP http://ladava.com "Muz Francis" <> wrote in message news:... > I have a Windows Server Standard 2003 Primary Domain Controller, on > which I have just installed Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. > > The Exchange Server installation completed successfully, and asked me > to reboot. > > After rebooting, W2003 displays "The Active Directory is rebuilding > indices. I tracked the problem in the Event Log after booting into DSRM to be: Event Type: Error Event Source:
