started in normal state. Go to AD recovery mode and tried to run ntdsutil and still can't be recovered. Can anyone help me to resolve this problem? I'd read some esentutl /p web info and nearly all of them are having below error message:- lsass.exe-System Error: Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: Directory Service cannot start. Error Status: 0xc00002e1. Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode, check the event log for more detailed information. However, for me, the error code is 0xc00000e5 instead failed to open dit for ad ds/lds instance ntds. error -2147418113 of 0xc00002e1. Is there any difference? At the same time, you will need to perform the steps below before re-promoting the server: 1. Seize FSMO roles to the existing DC in the domain. For the detailed steps, you can refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article: Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller http://support.microsoft.com/?id=255504 2. Remove remnant entries of the corrupted DC from AD database. How to remove data in Active Directory after an unsuccessful domain controller demotion http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216498 3. Then, you can re-promote the server *Solution 3: If this is the only DC, you can use ntdsutil.exe to repair AD database ntds.dit. However it might not completely resolve the issue. Solved Repair Active Directory Posted on 2009-08-05 Active Directory Windows Server 2003 3 active directory Verified Solutions 11 Comments 3,233 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-07 I've inherited a two w2003 domain active directory network and one of the servers had disk problems and won't fully boot. Upon recovery it says that it cannot start active directory services, boot into active directory restore mode. Which I can do. Unfortunately there are no windows backup of this ntds.dit error 1018 box but the other domain controller is still working. AD does not run on the failed box so I cannot demote it. I've tried to run repairs on the AD esentutl /p "c:\windows\\ntds\ntds.dit" /!10240 /8 /o (the /x /v came back as invalid switches. and it errors out with Access to your database c:\windows\ntds\ntds.dit failed with Jet error -1022, operation terminated. Any help out there? Miltimore Guest Had a power outage and ADS took a dump. I am trying to repair/recover the ntds.dit with ntdsutil.exe and get an error while it tries to open the database. As follows: "Error: DBInitializeJetDatabase failed with [Jet Error -1018]." Looked at MS website, but all results I found related to Exchange 5.5. Really odd since I use Win2k server and Exchange 2000. Any ideas? Thanks Shane Miltimore, Oct 27, 2003 #1 Advertisements Matjaz Ladava [MVP] Guest If you have a valis backup, just restore AD on the server. If this is not the only DC you have, you can use dcpromo to remove AD and then dcpromo to recreate a dc. -- Regards Matjaz Ladava, MCSE, MCSA, MVP Microsoft MVP - Active Directory , http://ladava.com "Shane Miltimore" <> wrote in message news:Oaenb.43732$... > Had a power outage and ADS took a dump. There are some other utilities that you can try to use to force recovery, but you will lose some amount of data if you go this route because the corrupted data gets deleted. I am not allowed to discuss this method with you because I cannot guarantee the integrity of your database after performing a forced recovery. Many times you will experience linger problems if this is done. However, you really have two options at this point: 1. A system state restore on the problem DC will resolve this problem quickly and easily if you have a good system s
