drive isn't spinning up at power on it is either dead or it is not set to spin up: Most SCSI hard drives have a jumper to spin up at power on or wait for a "Start Unit" command from the SCSI controller. Configure the drive to spin up at power on. Check the drive manufacturer's documentation for details. Enable the "Send Start Unit Command" option for the SCSI ID of the drive in SCSI Select: Enter SCSISelect by pressing Ctrl-A during the boot sequence when prompted. On cold-boot "Drive not ready, System Halted". On reset, drive works fine. Why? Controller alarm gets activated on every initial boot then stops. The device has been under use for more than a year. This error has been seen very recently. My guess, given the error code, and what I've understood from the conversation on debian-user [1], this could be a generic problem than being a hardware malfunction.
