Lastpass An Error Occurred While Attempting To Contact The Server
This is located in ASP.NET-MVC project. I have a simple silverlight application. It's in the same solution, but in a different project. I would like to consume my service by a silverlight application. I attempt to "Add Service Reference..." and in the left hand column I have a list of all available ASMX and WCF services. When I click on any of the services, it attempts to download service information, but fails after 10-20 seconds: "An error occured (details) while attempting to find services at..." What am I doing wrong here? Thank you I'm 100% certain that services are functional because I can invoke them through AJAX. c# silverlight web-services wcf share|improve this question asked Oct 12 '10 at 15:48 user338195 Check that the URL discovered by the Add Service Reference is working correctly - Paste it directly into your web browser. –JTC Sep 29 '12 at 5:24 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Maybe a stupid question but was the service running when you attempted to add the s

This question comes up more than you would imagine. Although it’s https://johnwsaunders3.wordpress.com/2009/05/17/how-to-consume-a-web-service/ a simple question, it’s hard to find a simple answer. This post will attempt to be the simple answer. Any complications will be added as other http://dennis.bloggingabout.net/2010/06/16/wcf-simple-example-in-visual-studio-2010/ posts, referencing this one. Creating the Test Service I’ll just start by creating a simple WCF service for us to consume later. This will also an error create the Visual Studio Solution we’re going to use. Start with File->New Project: This brings up the New Project dialog. I’ll choose the “WCF Service Application” project template, just for simplicity. In general I would have chosen “WCF Service Library” from the WCF page. This results in the following solution structure: occurred while attempting
Actually, Visual Studio has provided all we need for this example. It created a Data Contract class for our use: [DataContract] public class CompositeType { [DataMember] public bool BoolValue { get; set; } [DataMember] public string StringValue { get; set; } } It also created a service contract that our service will implement. This contract uses the Data Contract: [ServiceContract] public interface IService1 { [OperationContract] string GetData(int value); [OperationContract] CompositeType GetDataUsingDataContract(CompositeType composite); } It also created the service as a class that implements the service contract: public class Service1 : IService1 { public string GetData(int value) { return string.Format("You entered: {0}", value); } public CompositeType GetDataUsingDataContract(CompositeType composite) { if (composite.BoolValue) { composite.StringValue += "Suffix"; } return composite; } } It also created the Service1.svc file that will tell IIS (or the Visual Studio Development Server) which class to create to handle calls to the server: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="WcfService1.Service1" CodeBehind="Seit right now)Manually adding and configuring the endpointsMore to come…It’s been a long, long time since I wrote the original WCF Simple Example post. It was even before Visual Studio 2008 and since then, a lot of things changed. As still a lot of folks place comments and questions to that post, let’s have a look at what we currently have to do to get a service up and running and consume it in a client. This time we’ll start with a class library assembly (a .dll) and we’ll host the service inside a console application. The client will use a Windows Forms application again. Although we do everything in Visual Studio 2010, most will be usable in VS2008. I will mention it when it isn’t and provide an alternative. I’ll be a bit more descriptive about what we have to do, so this post is a little longer than the original.Create Project First create a new "class library", this will become the implementation of our service. Choose New Project and select the Class Library as project template. At the bottom, set as name for the project “EmailService” and the solution name “WCFSimpleExample2010”. If you can’t set the solution name, check the Create directory for solution box.Create the contract We’ll first create the contract with only one method; or operation as they are called in WCF. The "class library" should have added a class called "Class1", you should rename it to IEmailValidator.cs and make it an interface with the same name. Now add a single method signature called ValidateAddress that takes one string argument called emailAddress and returns a boolean. This is a normal interface, nothing fancy and the end result is as follows: public interface IEmailValidator { bool ValidateAddress(string emailAddress); } Now we need to tell WCF that this is our contract. We do that by adding attributes, but first we need to add a reference to System.ServiceModel. Rig
