An Error Has Occurred Because A Control With Auto-generated Id
located to raise a postback event. by SyynX Solu » Wed, 08 Mar 2006 03:35:40 Hi, in my application I suddenly get the error: "An error has occurred because a control with auto-generated id 'main:institutionManagement:institutionOverview' could not be located to raise a postback event. To avoid this error, explicitly set the ID property of controls that raise postback events." The exception is thrown in Page.ProcessPostData. I fully understand the message, but my control does not have an auto-generated id!? The controls 'main' and 'institutionManagement' are ascx files, 'institutionOverview' is a templated databound Web Custom Control which implementes IPostBackEventHandler. So I have no idea what causes this error? I have the controls already seen working and I have no glue what I have changed since. Any hint would be really appreciated. regards, Achim Top 1. how to grant one ID-a's authorization to ID-b 2. Why does Form-A's instance fire Form-B's event?? Hi, I have an MDI application. I'm opening 2 instances of the same form, Form-A and Form-B. WHen I have these two instances of same form open, it looks like all the events are shared between Form-A and Form-B. Eg., I have a button, which on click, changes the tab from Tab-1 to Tab-4. Since, in this case, both Form-A and Form-B have same buttons, the button click on Form-A changes Form-B's Tab-1 to Tab-4. Which should not happen. How can I avoid this? How is this handled in .NET? Shouldn't the events of Form-A be kept separate from Form-B's events? Any help is greatly appreciated. HyperX. 3. Somtimes though, the navigation between them seems to be broken. For instance, when situated at LayoutSettings.cs, clicking Countries.cs just causes LayoutSettings.cs to reload (but Countries.cs can be reached from other pages on the site). No error message gets displayed, but upon setting a breakpoint in Global.asax.cs.Application_Error(), I notice that the following is happening: Application error: System.Web.HttpException (0x80004005): English translation: An error has occurred because a control with id ctl00$SiteContentPlaceHolder$ctl00$ctl01 could not be located or a different control is assigned to the same ID after postback. If the ID is not assigned, explicitly set the ID property of controls that raise postback events to avoid this error. I can't see anything suspicious in the markup for either link in the administration.aspx files. I also don't see any controls in the LayoutSettings and Countries.cs files with duplicate names (or unassigned names). What can I try from now on? As best as I can tell, ViewState is enabled. I would gladly share relevant code, but I'm not sure exactly what should be included just yet. c# asp.net viewstate share|improve this question edited Nov 18 '13 at 15:55 Jeroen Vannevel 29.7k1154103 asked Nov 18 '13 at 15:53 Christofer Ohlsson 1,05111435 Do you have something like string.Format("property: {0}", value) where the actual value is missing? &n
