When clicking on their user type they receive “An Error has Occurred in the Application”. The error is not recorded in event logs on the server, but the following error is displayed in the browser when attempting to log in at the application server: Server Error in '/RenaissanceServer' Application. Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same. If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aspnet_state\Parameters\AllowRemoteConnection. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. The ASP.NET State Service is not running when checking the list of services on the application server, but when trying to start the service the following error is displayed: Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. Reason: An unknown error has occurred in the Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1. Although the application is still installed, the service is no longer registered. Note: This should no longer be an issue in .NET 2.0. Resolution: 1) Open a command prompt on the application server and navigate to %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322 . Unable to Connect to Renaissance Place In order to connect to our server, you will need to be able to connect to the Internet. If you are unable to get to other websites, you could have one of three issues: The workstation is not physically connected to the network. The browser needs to be setup. Your school or district has a proxy server and the browser is not configured with the proxy settings. All three issues will need to be addressed by the school or district technical staff. If you can get to other websites but cannot access your hosted site, your district might be blocking traffic on port 443. If your browser displays "The page cannot be found" and "HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. Internet Information Services (IIS)" when accessing the hosted site, you might be typing the address incorrectly. If you retype the correct address and still cannot connect, your ISP (Internet Service Provider) may have restricted access to the address of your hosted site. Some features are no longer available in Renaissance Place such as previewing or printing reports. When clicking the Report link, users receive the message “An an error Error Has Occurred In The Application - Use the link to return to Renaissance Place”. In newer versions of the software, the reports may be missing completely, or the reports may start to generate and then display the message, “There was an error while generating the report. Please try again”. Renaissance Place reports open a new web page that states, “The page cannot be displayed. Cannot an error has find server or DNS Error”. Accelerated Math assignments will not generate in Renaissance Place. The message states, “The connection to the printing service has been lost, please contact your server administrator”. When installing Accelerated Math libraries, the installer indicates “You must install libraries at your server. Click the Details button for further information”. The Details button shows, “Accelerated Math libraries must be installed at your Accelerated Math RP server. Please ask your server administrator to run the Accelerated Math content installer at the server”. When installing Accelerated Math libraries, there is an error for each library in the status column of the Accelerated Math Content Installer. The error states, “The connection to the content service has been lost, please contact your server administrator”. When installing content for English in a Flash or Fluent Reader an error states, “An error occurred during installation. Click the Details button for further information” and “The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server”. (Accelerated Reader application-specific reports will generate.) Consolidation shows “Consolidation complete, potential problems detected”, but may complete successfully. The following errors occur: Accelerated Math, STAR Early Literacy, and STAR Math reports display “An Error Has Occurred in the Application”. (Accelerated Math and STAR Math write an error to the Renaissance Event log at the server indicating, “General network error. Check your network documentation”. STAR Early Literacy writes an error to the Renaissance Event log at the server indicating, “Object reference not set to an instance of an object”.) In place of the STAR Reading reports, the user receives an error “There was an error while generating the report. Please try again”. When trying to generate Renaissance Place reports, after choosing the district, school, or class, the next page does not display a list of products to choose from. This error will be logged in the SQL error log every time a user attempts to generate a report in one of the affected programs: Error: 17805, Severity: 20, State: 3 Invalid buffer received from client. Reason: This issue is caused by the installation of Microsoft’s Security Patch MS03-031 for SQL Server 2000, also included with SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4. If this security patch or service pack has been applied, your version of SQL Server 2000 will be 2000.80.818.0 or 2000.80.2039.0. Changes made in this patch tighten security in the communications layer to the SQL database, causing a conflict with how the Renaissance Place application functions. Resolution: To determine your SQL Server 2000 version, locate the file Ssnetlib.dll. By default, this file will be located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$
