There's a bunch of .ini files on the HDD and can't be used, also the .thn/Thumbnail files might be a problem

This sounds strange, but I just checked with Full Install of MS Live essentials, Photo Gallery launches MovieMaker.exe to play slideshow. I guess due to various slideshow effects.
