I am trying to upload mp3 tracks onto my new website. I have used several different methods; FileZilla, Internet Explorer, and directly through my hosting site. At first it was going fine and then I started receiving error messages. The most obvious error message comes when I am using Internet Explorer. The message

I am the network administrator and a user was complaining about this problem. It has worked in the past. I am using ISA 2006 as my firewall. When I connect to any FTP an error site with windows explorer and try to copy something to it I get an error. "An error occurred copying a file to the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to put files on the server. Details: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary; 227 Entering Passive Mode (173,201,146,1,196,74); 550 Access is denied" I know permissions is not the issue. I login with a username and password that I know is correct. I can upload to these sites from a remote computer, just not the ftp server here from the office. I have no idea where to start to look for the problem. Anyone have any ideas? Reply lwsrbrts 15 Posts Re: Can't upload to ftp sites Mar 27, 2012 08:51 AM|lwsrbrts|LINK Difficult one to troubleshoot without more information really but the most obvious thing to confirm is that you are able to communicate with an FTP server that requires you to connect to it on high numbered ephemeral ports. When you enter passive mode, your client computer attempts to connect to a port number that the FTP server has opened up for you to perform your data transfers on. If your firewall is restricting the connection, it obviously won't work. From the command response you supplied, the FTP server is IP: 173.201.146.1 and the port number it opened for your data connection is 14504 (196 x 74 = 14504). Your firewall needs to permit you to connect to that port number. Many firewalls will only permit ports 80, 443 and a few other services but bear in mind that FTP servers that use passive FTP can run on virtually any range of high number ephemeral ports and that you need to open these outbound for you to connect to. You could try and use Active mode toremove the high number port passive requirementbut you need a better client. Go and grab yourself a copy of FileZilla FTP client (it's free!) and use that to further your troubleshooting. ‹ Previous Thread|Next Thread › This site is

When I enter ftp://[ipaddress] from my local machine, I can successfully login with my admin credentials. However, when I try to upload a file, I receive the following error: An error occurred copying a file to the FTP Server. Make sure you have permission to put files on the server. Details: 200 Type set to I. 227 Entering Passive Mode. 550 Access is denied. I logged into the server and checked the firewall settings. The inbound rules has the FTP Server (FTP Traffic-In), FTP Server Passive (FTP Passive Traffic-In), and FTP Server Secure (FTP SSL Traffic-In) rules all enabled. Still I can not upload a file. In an effort to bypass this, I temporarily turned off the firewall. This did not work. I checked permissions on the directory and administrative users have full access. What am I doing wrong?
