DirectPlay Voice error? i can't use my mic! I have a problem with recording audio from a microphone. The audigy 2 ZS is installed properly and configured properly, and works great, except that I can't use a microphone with the board or my onboard sound. I was hoping you guys during directplay voice could help me to get this issue resolved, as I received the card today. The specific problem occurs in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel. All of the fields are selected for the SB audigy card. Under the "Voices" tab, I try to test the hardware. At the end of the hardware test, i get these errors: "An error occurred during DirectPlay Voice setup. The error code is 0x80004005" I close that error window and i get another error: "Windows cannot execute DpvSetup.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install" This is really pissing me off because I bought this card SPECIFICALLY for microphone support (and EAX, but that works great). This is likely to be a problem with Windows XP. Many people are having the exact same problems in Windows XP. (PS I uninstalled my virus protection program, but the problem is still not resolved) Reply With Quote 02-29-2004,09:49 AM #2 Seoulstriker View Profile View Forum Posts Tiger Shark Join Date Dec 2003 Posts 976 no one can help me? i guess i need to reinstall windows. Some other user might have dragged the shortcut from the start menu to their desktop, making it disappear from the start menu. As for a much better alternative, use Audacity. It is free and in my opinion is the best audio recorder/editor. By the way, if you use Audacity, you need to find the lame-enc.dll to save your recordings as mp3s. karbonfyber, Aug 7, 2005 #2 mike5532g Joined: Jun 11, 2004 Messages: 2,312 Sound Recorder Missing from All Programs/Accessories/Entertainment mike5532g, Aug 7, 2005 #3 Platnap Joined: Aug 7, 2005 Messages: 4 When this happened to me, I had to reinstall windows. Use the disk that came with your computer when you bought it and choose the option the reinstall windows without formatting hardrive. That should give you sound recorder back and not delete any of your files. Anyway, back to your problem, double click t
