scan from the device using the provided HP software bundle. The (very uninformative) error message that I received after pressing the Scan Document button was: An error occurred while communicating with scanning device The communication an error occurred while scanning your folders. see the ost integrity check problem is often solved by reinstalling the drivers (simply remove the printer from Printers an error occurred while scanning or importing bad filename or number and Faxes and click "Add Device" from the installation CD - no need to reinstall the included software) or by correcting an error occurred during scanning common network misconfigurations (wrong IP, disconnected network cable, etc.). Steps for basic troubleshooting are discussed on HP's Website for USB and Network connections. If/When the basic troubleshooting procedures don't solve the problem, there is a very http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/quot-An-error-occurred-communicating-with-the-scanning/td-p/82661 involved solution for correcting the driver network connection settings posted by Ken Leon on the HP Forums (along with other useful suggestions/diagnostics in that thread). However, in one (increasingly common) case, it may be possible to avoid the need to reconfigure the internals of the scanner drivers. If your ISP participates in DNS Hijacking, it may be prudent to rule this out as a cause of the error. It appears that the https://digitalenginesoftware.com/blog/archives/13-An-error-occurred-while-communicating-with-scanning-device.html scan drivers attempt to address the device based on its hostname rather than its IP address (regardless of configuration) and when it resolves the address of the device, the DNS request gets hijacked and the scan drivers attempt to connect to the ISP server instead of the device. To diagnose this, simply disconnect the network from the Internet (and restart the router and computer after disconnecting to clear their DNS cache) and see if the error still appears. If it does, then this is not the problem, if it does not, you have found the problem. To remedy the problem, add an entry to the hosts file which associates the hostname of the device (both the name displayed in its web configuration as the hostname and its MAC address prepended with "HP" as this is often used by the drivers). post about this issue one more time... It still hasn't been resolved (after 10 back-and-forth e-mails with HP technical http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/scanning-problems-with-hp-all-in-one.3849196/ support), and I really need your help! First off, I run Windows Vista https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4874507?start=0&tstart=0 Home Premium (32). I've used my HP Photosmart C4280 printer for about 2 years, worked fine for the most part. Lately I started having problems, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver & software (got the latest versions from HP download site). Since reinstall, my scanner isn't working. Whether I an error press the "Scan" button on the unit, or I select "Scan picture" or "Scan document" from the HP Solution Center, an error pops up: "An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the printing device is properly connected and try again". Also, I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers/software several times, cleaned temporary files and registry, still the problem persists. Having said that, the an error occurred printing/copying works fine, so I know that the printer is properly connected. BTW, tried connecting the same printer to a friend's PC running Windows XP and it scans with no problem, so the issue must have something to do with HP interacting (non-interacting) with Vista. Please help!!! civ2ru, Jul 9, 2009 #1 Advertisements Carol Guest Scanning with HP all in ones using Vista is a disaster. I've been trying to get them to write a patch but zero response. You can scan but only to picture format - .btmp, .jpeg, etc. That means you can't OCR anything which is a real problem for me. If you're willing to accept the picture format, just turn on the printer, go to Programs/Accessories and open Paint. Click on File then "From Scanner or Camera" then click Scan. If HP ever comes up with a patch, I'll post the information. "civ2ru" wrote: > Sorry to post about this issue one more time...
