An Error Occurred During Service Master Key Decryption

Move most of the files in your home folder to an external hard drive temporarily, then log out and log back in. You should now be able to deactivate legacy FV. Move the files back to your home folder. It ran for about 1 hr and then I got the error message " An error occurred during decryption (An error occurred during copying). File Vault won't be turned off for this account". You could try repairing the disk.2. You could try cloning to a MUCH larger disk and then decrypting on the clone (I know you said you got over the filesize thing, but I'm not wholly convinced of the accuracy of FV's error messages). The way I solved this was 'the long way round'. While booted into your FV-enabled account, you can manually copy off your data to an external disk and it won't be encrypted. You
decided to enable FileVault for my home directory. Unfortunately, with the combination of Parallels and merging gigs of pcap files, the performance wasn't really holding up and I decided to revert the process. Relying on the ease of use of Apple's software, I went into my Security preferences and clicked "Turn off FileVault". After entering the requisite passwords and dialog boxes, the system logged me out and began the process. A few moments later, I was https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4128414?tstart=0 greeted with this unfortunate message: An error occurred An error occurred during decryption (An error occurred during copying ). FileVault will be turned on for this home folder and the home folder will still be encrypted. An audible sigh escaped my lips as I realized this wasn't going to be as easy as I hoped. A Google http://www.dcortesi.com/blog/2007/01/16/undoing-filevault/ on the error message revealed pathetically few results (2, at the time of this writing…one in Japanese). Some more creative Google searches revealed some useful tips, but trying to repair or restore the filesystem both resulted in failure with cryptic error messages. It seemed the root of the problem was the result of filesystem corruption in the actual encrypted sparseimage that housed my home directory. One of the recommended courses of action included copying the contents of the encrypted image to another directory, deleting the user, and creating a new, replacement user. I really didn't want to do this…so I came up with another way. These instructions are not verbose and some file permission munging was required, but this should give a general idea of how I solved the problem. Create another account Login to this second account Create a new encrypted sparseimage of larger size than the current one and give it the same password Mount both the old sparseimage (located in /Users/

The error was ignored because the FORCE option was specified. } an error Cause SQL Server service account was changed from services control manager (or) service master key was not backed up and restored when migrating SQL Server to another computer domain. { http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187788.aspx To change the SQL Server service account, use SQL Server Configuration Manager. To manage a change of the service account, SQL Server stores a redundant copy of the service master key protected by the machine account that an error occurred has the necessary permissions granted to the SQL Server service group. If the computer is rebuilt, the same domain user that was previously used by the service account can recover the service master key. This does not work with local accounts or the Local System, Local Service, or Network Service accounts. When you are moving SQL Server to another computer, migrate the service master key by using backup and restore. The REGENERATE phrase regenerates the service master key. When the service master key is regenerated, SQL Server decrypts all the keys that have been encrypted with it, and then encrypts them with the new service master key. This is a resource-intensive operation. You should schedule this operation during a period of low demand, unless the key has been compromised. If any one of the decryptions fail, the whole statement fails. The FORCE option causes the key regeneration process to continue even if the process cannot retrieve the current master key, or cannot decrypt all the private keys that are encrypted with it. Use FORCE only if regeneration fails and you cannot restore the service master key by using the RESTORE SERVICE MASTER KEY statement. } Resolution Regenerate the service

Of course I went through the stage of not enough space, moved most of my files to an external drive, deleting them in my account on my macbook pro (tiger) until I had sufficient space. I let Filevault "recover the unused space" in a reboot, and once again tried to turn off Filevault. Now I get no warnings about insufficient space, just a simple message saying there is an error "An error occurred during decryption (An error occurred during copying), Filevault will be turnon on for this home folder and the home folder will be encrypted" AARGH no clue where to go from here.I read in other posts that one way is to simply create a new account. Is there any downside to that? I do not want to spend more time trying to sort out the bugs in FileVault. Share this conversation Expert: Mike replied6 years ago. Hi,Boy, I wish Apple would just do away with that disaster. There is no downside. It just takes a lot of time because you have to manually move everything from the old user account to the new one and make sure all are put in the exact same location. Everything in the Users Home folder needs to be copied to the new users Home folder and replace what's is there if there is something. As you found out, it is virtuall
