and browse the datastore, but for some reason, it cannot be removed. It gives me an error Call "HostDatastoreSystem.RemoveDatastore" for object "datastoreSystem-85" on vCenter Server "MyvCenter01" failed. And the Tasks say "An error occurred during host configuration".There should be no active data on the datastore (last writes more than year ago).Any advices call "hostdatastoresystem.removedatastore" for object on vcenter server failed. how to troubleshoot this on?Also, as a workaround, is there any harm done, if I simply unmount the datastore and after that unpresent and delete it from EVA ?Thanks in advance--kari 3593Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Google+So, I was busy humming along, dividing some hosts between a production vCenter server and the new disaster recovery (DR) vCenter server that I had just installed. As part of this process, I had mounted DR datastore, moved the virtual machines that I needed to run in DR over to their new locations, and was now busy unmounting the production datastores. But, one of the NFS datastores was being stubborn. Why couldn’t I use the Delete button from within the Configuration tab | Datastore link? Why couldn’t I right-click this particular datastore and select the Unmount menu item? The entire error https://communities.vmware.com/thread/460907?start=0&tstart=0 message read, “An error occurred during host configuration. See the error stack for details on the cause of this problem. Call “HostDatastoreSystem.RemoveDatastore” for object “datastoreSystem-415”. An unknown error has occurred.”What in the world did that error mean? At least it was consistent. Any of the hosts on which I attempted to remove this particular datastore produced the same error message. http://www.orionscache.com/2015/06/an-error-prevents-datastore-from-dismounting/ I went browsing the contents of the datastore, and found that it contains the Scratch Space for all the hosts! No wonder they refused to dismount it. Didn’t know you could setup Scratch Space on NFS? Goto this blog for the steps:http://www.orionscache.com/2012/05/how-to-setup-vmware-scratch-space/Obviously, the answer to my problem was to move the scratch space location of the hosts designated for DR, and then unmount the datastore that I no longer wanted attached. That brings me to another point: it is best practice not to have remote datastores mounted. Think what a network bottleneck I would have created if I had not attempted to dismount this production datastore? My next step was going to be to physically move these hosts, and if they were still reached out across the WAN for their scratch space it would have been a network bottleneck. Following an error Follow VMware ESXi I have tried removing my VMDatastore1 in order to recreate it and increase the block size. I am getting the following message ' ERROR DURING THE CONFIGURATION OF HOST: DESTROYVMFSDATASTORE: CANT DELETE PARTITION 3 ON LUN vmhba2:0:0'. Is this some sort of registry from when it was first created? On the properties tab there an error occurred is information under the Extent Device pane relating to Primary Partitions, any help would be very much appreciated. If it is shared storage make sure all hosts that have the datastore configured have it removed from their configuration. For both make sure all VMs are shutdown. If this is local storage then after you have the VMs shutdown (or deleted) try restarting the host to remove any disk locks and then remove the volume. 2010 Call fails for "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastore- CreateOptions" for object "ha-datastoresystem" Categories: VMWare by Erwin Recently I had to reinstall an existing Dell PowerEdge 2970 server. This server was running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2 (32bit) with Xen 3.2.0 as virtualization software (host), but I decided to put VMWare ESXi 4.1.0 on this box. This server has a single Dell PERC 5/I RAID Controller, with six 72GB SAS disks attached to it. I started by destroying the existing two RAID sets, and created 2 new RAID sets. One for the OS (RAID1) and the other for the datastore (RAID10). After the RAID sets where intialized I started the installation of VMWare ESXi and the server was up-and-running in less than 20 minutes. As part of the post installation configuration of the VMWare ESXi server I tried to add a second (local) datastore by using the Add Storage wizard in the vSphere Client. In the Add Storage Wizard, I specified Disk/LUN as Storage Type and selected the available disk (the RAID10 set). After pressing Next, the Add Storage Wizard returned the following error: An error occured during host configuration. Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "192.168.1.61" failed. On a side note, if you close this error message and go a step backwards and continue forward it wil not give an error anymore. This is not a solution or workaround, because when the Wizard gets at the Formatting property sheet, it wil give the following error: "De objectverwijzing is niet op een exemplaar van een object ingesteld" is dutch for "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" I couldn't find more detailed information about this error in the eventlog of the vSphere client, located in the directory: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VMware\vpx.And a search on the Internet didn't gave a answer either. So I was forced to troubleshoot on my own. I was certain that the volume was consistent , because I had performed a full initialization and integrity check when the RAID10 disk was created. As shown in the second screenshot of this post, the Add Storage wizard indicated that the disk was blank. I further noticed that there was no Available space on this disk. Normally speaking it would show how much space is available on the disk, so I assumed that there was something wrong with the partition table of this disk. I couldn't find an option in the vSphere client to remove the existing partition info on
