Working with the local Xerox printer tech, we got the driver installed on the server and tested printing. But he wanted to show me some things under the “Configure Port” option, but when we tried to do so, we got the following error message: An error occurred during port configuration. Access is denied. I was stumped, as I knew we were logged on as an administrator. I even tried using Print Management service. I then found a helpful step-by-step solution to this problem over on the GeeksOnTech website. Their post includes screen shots, but here is a summary of the steps: Open up Devices & Printers Highlight the printer you want to change, then click on Print Server Properties from the menu bar On the next window, click the Ports tab, and then at the bottom of that same window click Change Port Settings Now select your printer, and then click Configure Port… Hope this helps! An Error Occurred During Port Configuration Windows Xp
selected the ports tab and found the port I wanted to change: Now, as I have done many an error occurred during port configuration 0x00000aa times in the past I clicked "Configure Port" ready to enter the new IP only to be met with: "An error occurred during port configuration. Access is denied." Its the same http://kwsupport.com/2015/12/error-occurred-during-port-configuration-access-is-denied/ for deleting the port. That seems very much like a UAC related error with me not being elevated, no worries I'll just elevate myself - easy. Not quite, the run as administrator isn't on the printer context menu: and the normal trick of holding down Shift while right clicking doesn't give additional options either. Anyway, lets skip past the next 15mins http://blacktheman.blogspot.com/2011/11/access-denied-message-when-changing.html of blank looks at the screen and I'll give you the magic rune needed here, its annoyingly simple and looks like it will take you to the same dialog, but it is actually subtly different. When you highlight the printer the explorer task bar context changes offering you options specific to that object. Click on the "Print Server Properties" button on the explorer task bar: This takes you to an almost identical menu as the printer properties but has the all important elevate button on the ports page allowing you to make the change: access denied message when changing printer port Posted by The Black Man at 11/18/2011 12:56:00 pm Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest 1 comment: Miko21 April 2016 at 21:32YOU ARE AWESOME!!!! Thank you for giving us this! Would it REALLY have cost them so much in development to put a hint? Seeing as "cfg port" has been the way ports have been converted for 25 years, it could have been a good idea.ReplyDeleteAdd commentLoad more... even if your account belongs to the Local Administrators or Domain Administrators group. If you just right click on an existing printer and select "Printer Properties" https://help.austlink.net/hc/en-us/articles/202717066-Managing-Printers-In-Windows-2012 you will get one of two situations if you are not using the http://kiran-windowstips.blogspot.com/2012/04/error-occurred-during-port.html built in Administrator account. If you have created the printer then when you try and do something such as modify a port you will get the "An error occurred during port configuration - Access is denied." error. If someone else had created the printer then many of the options will be grayed out an error To get around this double click on the printer icon to open up the printer queue window From the top menu select "Printer" and then "Open As Administrator" If you are an administrator you will not be prompted for credentials otherwise you will need to enter in the administrator's credentials Now go back to the printer menu and select "Properties" an error occurred You should now be able to modify all the settings without any restrictions Print Server Properties To modify the print server properties just click on any printer and then select "Print server properties" from the top menu You will be able to modify the ports and other functions without restriction (as long as your account belongs to the administrator group) Was this article helpful? 0 out of 0 found this helpful Have more questions?
