First set your time configuration to default: net stop w32time w32tm /unregister w32tm /register net start w32time Next you can configure windows to sync time with different ntp servers: net stop w32time w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:”0.pool.ntp.org, 1.pool.ntp.org, 2.pool.ntp.org” net start w32time w32tm /resync /rediscover to check your settings use following command: w32tm /query /configuration Marked as answer by Boo_MonstersIncMicrosoft contingent staff, Moderator Wednesday, December 19, 2012 7:47 AM Friday, December 14, 2012 1:20 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Please also see Meinolf article: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/archive/2010/06/27/time-configuration-in-a-windows-domain.aspx If this server is member of an AD

we highly recommend that you visit our Guide for New Members. Solved: Unable to sync to time server - RPC server is unavailable (but more) Discussion in 'Windows XP' started by iissmart, Aug 8, 2007. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement iissmart https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-unable-to-sync-to-time-server-rpc-server-is-unavailable-but-more.607047/ Thread Starter Joined: Oct 14, 2003 Messages: 215 XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/windows-time-problem.2302885/ after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK an error without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it. These two issues seem to be related since right after I reboot, the Authentication tab works normally (as well as the time sync like I mentioned above), and they both seem to stop working at the same time. I have an error occurred no idea if it happens after something I run or if it's just after a certain amount of time or what. Any ideas? iissmart, Aug 8, 2007 #1 Hammerz Joined: Sep 20, 2007 Messages: 1 I have the same problem exactly. There is an article at Ed Bott's Windows Expertise (http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1779) tyhat discusses problems with the Windows time Server, but nothing he suggested worked for me. It just won't update...no matter what server I choose. Hammerz, Sep 20, 2007 #2 iissmart Thread Starter Joined: Oct 14, 2003 Messages: 215 I found a temporary workaround for my problem, actually. As it turns out, my Windows Time service was randomly stopping, which resulted in the RPC Server unavailable error. So what I did to fix this was: 1) Navigate to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services 2) Scroll down to the Windows Time service, right click it, and click Properties 3) Go over to the Recovery Tab, and set the First Failure, Second Failure, and Subsequent Failures all to the "Restart the Service" option. That way, when it randomly stops, it restarts itself. So I didn't really fix the problem, because I don't know why it's stopping in the first place, but at least I don't have to worry about it anymore. Hopefully this helps you too iissmart, Sep 20, 2007 #3 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. Access is denied." On w32tm /resync again error: "Access is denied." I'm tired of googling, don't know what to do anymore. EDIT: Wrong forum, please lock or swap to operating systems. #1 AssistantPimp, Feb 19, 2013 Last edited: Feb 19, 2013 Bubbaleone Golden Member Joined: Nov 20, 2011 Messages: 1,792 Likes Received: 2 Three suggestions: replace the CMOS battery, go into BIOS and set correct time and date, synchronize with one of the nist.gov time servers. #2 Bubbaleone, Feb 19, 2013 AssistantPimp Member Joined: Jun 11, 2006 Messages: 138 Likes Received: 0 CMOS battery will be final solution if nothing else will work. I'll try to set time in bios, but sync in Windows doesn't work. #3 AssistantPimp, Feb 19, 2013 scragnoff Member Joined: Feb 7, 2013 Messages: 44 Likes Received: 0 Hi AssistantPimp! (sounds wierd, lol!) I found this on the Microsoft forum, posted by a user with the name Narad: At the elevated command prompt (with administrator privileges), type the following command 1. Type "w32tm /debug /disable" and press 'Enter' (net stop w32time gave an Error 5 Access denied response!) 2. Type "w32tm /unregister" and press 'Enter' (without using the first command the second did not work!) you should get the response " W32Time successfully unregistered" 3. Type "w32tm /register" and press 'Enter' you should get the response "W32Time successfully registered" 4. Type "net start w32time" and press 'Enter' you should get the response "The windows Time Service is starting. The windows time service was started successfully"Click to expand...
